When ever I use FireFox I get a Warning sign that blocks me from the site I'm on

I doesn't matter what I use this browser for, a small warning box comes up and it prevents me from using the site whether I'm on YouTube, CNN News, Facebook, or just doing a Google search. It says the same thing over and over. "WARNING!! Your Java Version is Outdated, Have Security Risks, Please Update Now!" The first time I just assumed that it was an update from FireFox so I downloaded it and is was some kind of binary file. It put like 400 viruses on my Dell Inspiron Laptop and if I didn't have Norton security on here it would have ruined computer and all my personal information would have been stolen. I have no idea what the problem is. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the browser 3 times and the same message comes up. You need to fix this unless your personally doing this to hack your users information.

The most likely explanation for the popups is a bad add-on that rode in with something you actually wanted; another possibility is that your connection is hacked.

Here's what I suggest for tracking down a bad add-on:

(1) Start with the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.

(2) Then, in Firefox, open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

(3) Search for remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. These on-demand scanners supplement your Norton software and often are more aggressive when it comes to "annoying" software that Norton doesn't detect as a threat.
