After I updated Firefox to 33.1, I haven't been able to use it. I open it and it tries to open a page and crashes immediately. I have already tried to reinstall

I updated Firefox to 33.1 like a dutiful Firefox user. Since then, I haven't been able to successfully use Firefox. It tries to open a page and crashes immediately. I can't access any Mozilla support through Firefox. I have uninstalled Firefox and redownloaded Firefox multiple times in an effort to solve the problem. I always send the Crash report but it seems to do nothing to solve the issue.

you could also try to update to firefox 34 beta, whcih already contains a fix for this fbplugin-related crash: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/beta/

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing when you open it. Please do the following to give us crash IDs that will help us understand more about the crash.

  1. (OS X 10.6 or previous) Click the Finder icon in the dock. Your home folder will be selected. In the right side of the window, click the Library folder to open it. Then open the "Application Support" folder, the "Firefox" folder, the "Crash Reports" folder and finally the "submitted" folder.
(OS X 10.7 or above) Click the Finder icon in the dock. On the menu bar, click the Go menu, hold down the option or alt key and select Library. A window will open containing your Library folder. Then open the "Application Support" folder, the "Firefox" folder, the "Crash Reports" folder and finally the "submitted" folder.
  2. Open the 5 most recent files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  3. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

You can find more information and troubleshooting steps in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

This doesn't solve my problem. For some reason, I cannot find the crash reports for Firefox. I can navigate to where they are supposed to be but there is no Firefox folder. The Mozilla folder only has extensions in it, no crash reports.

Does mozilla consider this problem solved because you copy and pasted this from a page that I have already seen?

This doesn't solve my problem.

mozilla doesn't consider this issue as solved before you explicitly mark it as such or say so. unfortunately without crash report ids it is difficult to know what is going on and to get you towards a solution, since there are countless reasons that might trigger a crash (some general advice is available at Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly))

i'll try to flag this thread as needing attention from a helper more familiar with mac os x (i am not) to guide you to those crash reports in partcular...

great, thanks. it appears that the facebook photo uploader plugin is causing those particular crashes. please try to remove it like it is described at https://www.ehow.com/how_8575837_remove-facebook-photo-uploader.html

Sorry, not trying to be difficult, especially since this is probably operator error but this still isn't solving my problem.

Found where the Fb photo uploader plug in should be, found other internet plug ins but couldn't find the fb one. I decided to delete the plug ins there anyways to see if it helps. Firefox still crashes upon opening.

Thanks for your help!

Just to be sure, did you look in the ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins folder under your user Home directory? On Mac OS, plugins are normally under the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder but some may be installed to the home directory for a specific user (e.g., ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins where "~" represents the MacIntosh HD/Users/"username" folder) which is hidden by default in Mac Os X 10.7 and above. Ref:

From the macobserver article:

1. Open a new Finder window
2. Navigate to your Home directory by selecting the Go menu and clicking Home (⌘-Shift-H)
3. Select the View menu and click Show View Options or by using ⌘-J
4. Check the box next to Show Library Folder

@Akshat59, each crash might be different, so it's best to create a new thread about it. let's continue at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1031355

Your crashes are caused by something totally different that what was discussed here and is about a different operating system.

Please start a new thread here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new - and provide the requested troubleshooting information.
