I have FF load my homepage & Google. Last version on exit would ask me about "Save & quit." Now it just quits and all my tabs are dumped.

Chosen solution

By design, your open windows and tabs will be saved so you don't need to tell Firefox to save. Some exceptions would be:

  • Closing a private browsing window
  • If Firefox is set to clear history at shutdown

I'm not sure when the message was removed, but I think it might have been a few versions ago. I don't remember ever seeing it myself...

What method are you using to exit: the new menu item (look like a power button), or the old File>Exit, or the "red X" button on the window, or the Windows Taskbar (right-click>Close all windows)? The first two usually give the best results in terms of maximizing the ability to restore your previous session.

After starting a new session, is Restore Previous Session available on the History menu or is it grayed out?

Yes, Restore Previous Session is available and I just used it. It works. But since I have FF startup with my homepage and Google, it duplicates these since they were open when I did File>Exit. Hadn't noticed the new menu button (it's gray until the cursor is on it). The "red X" button only closes the one window and I often have multiple windows open.

Your answer is an adequate workaround, but am I to understand the "Save & quit" is no longer a feature of FF?

If you have multiple browsing windows open then you need to use File > Exit or the button in the 3-bar menu to close all open windows at once. Otherwise only the last closed window will be restored on the next start and other windows are possibly listed under recently closed windows.

And Firefox just updated to 33.0 and now it asks if you want to save & quit . . . Yay!
