Why does this window <https://au.search.yahoo.com/yhs/errorhandler?hspart=gt&hsimp=yhse-gt&q=related-info-hrd.appspot.com%2Fstatic%2Frelated-information-mvc-1.3.&type=769480> replace many of my URLs such as <http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2014/sep/22/rockefeller-heirs-divest-fossil-fuels-climate-change> ? Its really annoying and started since I updated to Mavericks. I may have also updated Firefox since then. Is there a solution?

This could be due to one of your add-ons. Three of your extensions appear to be from "Spigot" whose software has been associated in other threads with diversions and redirections (e.g., How do I prevent Firefox from redirecting me to Yahoo search engine).

Open the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Command+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then disable or, if possible, remove Searchme 2.1. Check the other extensions for any that you do not recognize or know to be useful. "If in doubt, disable."

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does that help?

Hi jscher2000, Thanks so much. Indeed, that did solve the problem! I didn't want to go to another browser, and you help me to see that knowing a bit about add-ons isn't so scarey and out of my range of understanding.

Have a nice day!
