tried to fix in about:config but itms-services not foundn; also tried to fix using network.protocol-handler.external.foo but that wasn't listed either trying to download an app related to a rewards gift card firefox and os versions are up to date on MacBook Air

Based on my very limited knowledge of iOS apps, that type of link is used for installing apps on iOS devices. You would visit the link from an iPad or iPhone to install the corresponding app.
Firefox for Desktop would not understand the protocol.
