I am using JAWS for windows whicI am using a screen reader called Jaws for Windows. This is used by blind people to read what is on screen on windows computers.
the status line seems to have been removed so you can't tell how many messages are in a folder. Is this likely to be rectified?

Check the Status bar is actually enabled: View > Toolbars or 3bar menu icon > Options.
'Status Bar' should have a tick if selected.
If it is selected but still is not visible at bottom of window.
Run thunderbird in Safe Mode to see if an addon is causing a conflict. In Thunderbird: Help > Restart with Addons disabled.
If the enabled Status Bar now appears then one of the Addons/extensions is causing this to happen.
You would need to enable the Addon extensions one ata time to see which one causes the failure.

Hello, status bar enabled. ran TB with addOns disabled. still can't check for number of messages using insert numpad 3 with Jaws. running tb 31.0. was working in earlier versions.
What is insert+num pad 3 supposed to do? I cannot find it in the Jaws keystrokes lists...
Are you certain that INSERT + NUM PAD 3 is correct?
For Desktop: Say Word = INSERT+ NUM PAD 5
Not 3. Try 5.
