Firefox wouldn't open some swf files when I tell it to through any means. However, http://edmullen.net/test/poopboy.swf works fine.

I looked in my Options -> Applications menu and found this http://i.imgur.com/kPVOHdE.png

So its got 2 different types of swf files its encountering. I cannot tell the top one to affliate the same way the bottom one is.

I tried uninstalling the plugin. This removed the bottom one and meant that the poopboy.swf I linked also didn't work in the same way, however, reinstalling it got me right back to square one.

I'd like to add that these particular .swf files I'm trying to run DID work just yesterday so file corruption is not the problem, especially as I went and redownloaded all of them.

Chosen solution

Those two SWF entries are about different MIME types although that first one looks corrupted or at least unusual. and probably only the second (application/x-shockwave-flash) should be there.

You can rename (or delete) the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.

Hi RiKShaw, I understand that you do not want both. Did you click allow or allow and remember? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/why-do-i-have-click-activate-plugins... I am wondering if it has to do with the plugin being set to "always ask", is this the case? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Opening_files_using_plugins

I did another bout of googling and yes, that's pretty much what I had to do. I removed the mimetypes document to my desktop and it generated a new one. There are some preferences I had set up for files that are gone now but there is only one swf file and it works.
