My cctv supplier told me to download a video player from http://rj.baidu.com/soft/detail/15945.html?ald I had a hell of a time removing all of the adware & malware & all of my desktop office documents were changed to a chinese version of wps, i sorted those problems but occasionally when i close & open mozilla a mirror mozilla icon appears in the taskbar which is only a tab on the main browser, it has it's own address in properties & if I change it to the correct mozilla address it's fine until it makes another mirror. Just can't get rid of it. This is the site & now there are also popups advertising chinese goods. http://www.hao123.com/?tn=97230838_hao_pg

First, I would check your desktop shortcut. Right-click the Firefox icon, choose Properties, and the Shortcut tab. The "Target" should be the following, no more, no less (for 64-bit Windows):

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

If anything else follows that, particularly anything related to this problem, remove that. I would check your other browser shortcuts as well.

Do you have any idea what the "Browser Security 0.1" extension is?? I would try disabling it for now. Open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then you can disable unrecognized and unwanted extensions on the right side.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

I suggest reviewing your control panel by date. In other words:

Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, and after the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading. This will group by date, which helps in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that you might not recognize as suspicious by name. Take out as much trash as possible here.

Finally, you can "mop up" remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

Are you able to get rid of hao123?

Hi. Yes tried it all but still the same. Using browser security 0.1. The target address changes to the one i mentioned even after uninstal & instal, when it changes I correct it in properties but eventually it reverts back. I now also have the same mirror icon for IE but this icon is called tnlorent wxoeler. The pages just keep opening themselves

Who is the publisher of Browser Security 0.1 -- are you sure this is not part of the infection?

I suggest using one of the specialized malware removal forums listed in our support article Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. They will walk you through some advanced diagnostics and interpret the reports.
