Some plugins that are no longer maintained, like the Windows Media plugin, have their files installed in a place that Firefox no longer supports. This causes the plugin to stop working. We'll explain how to make these plugins work again.

Change a Firefox setting to turn these plugins back on

  1. Type about:config in the address bar and press EnterReturn.
A warning page may appear. Click Accept the Risk and Continue to go to the about:config page.
  2. Search for plugins.load_appdir_plugins
  3. Double-click plugins.load_appdir_plugins to change its value to true.
  4. Click the Firefox menu Fx89menuButton and select Exit.Click the Firefox menu at the top of the screen and select Quit Firefox.Click the Firefox menu Fx89menuButton and select Quit. When you restart Firefox the plugins will be enabled.
