http://kb.mozillazine.org/Gmail instructs to set IMAP server directory to "[Gmail]". This article does not even mention that possibility. Setting this was the key to a sane experience for me. After this is set, sent mail stops going to 2 folders (besides All mail). Should this not be added?

A ticket in pseudo-English reports a problem caused by setting the IMAP server directory : https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=511331 I could not quite decipher it, but it is related to spam.

You can edit the "IMAP Server Directory" field in Account Settings. This corrected it for me.

In Linux (should be very similar in Windows):

Edit | Account Settings | Server Settings | Advanced | IMAP Server Directory Insert [Gmail] - with the square brackets - and restart Thunderbird.
