If you're signed in with your Mozilla account but Sync isn’t turned on yet, this article will help you activate it. Sync allows you to securely back up your bookmarks, passwords, browsing history, and more across your devices.
Follow these quick steps to turn on and manage Sync in Firefox.
Sign in to Sync
1. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner of the Firefox toolbar.
2. Choose the Sign in to Sync option.
3. Enter your password.
You will receive an email with an authorization code; once you've entered the code back into the sign-in screen, you are officially signed in.
Turn on Sync
1. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner of the Firefox toolbar.
2. Click the Turn on button from the menu. If you're signed into the browser, you'll be redirected to your Sync settings.
3. Choose what you’d like to sync (e.g., passwords, bookmarks, history) and click Save.
4. Firefox will confirm that Sync is on. You can also confirm by clicking your profile icon again and looking for "Sync is on" next to your account.
Manage what Sync backs up
1. Click the menu button [☰] in the top right corner of the Firefox tool bar and choose Settings.
2. In the left-hand panel, click . You might be asked to sign in again.
If the Sync panel shows:
- Syncing: ON, click the Manage Sync button to manage your synced data.
- Syncing: OFF, click the toggle to turn Sync on, if Sync has been disabled. Then, click Manage Sync.
3. In the Choose What To Sync window, check the boxes for the data you want (e.g., Passwords).

Force a manual Sync
Mozilla accounts will sync at regular intervals, but you can also force a manual sync.
1. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner of the Firefox toolbar.
