This image was posted by ideato in an unrelated discussion. It shows a new option at the top of the General panel,

    Enable E10S (multi-process)

    QUESTION MARK ff38

This may only be for testing purposes, I don't know. It doesn't appear in Firefox 37 Beta.

Related bugs: Bug 1064886 - add "Enable E10S" checkbox to preferences pane Bug 1085622 - "Enable E10S (multi-process)" preference checkbox should not be displayed in Aurora's about:preferences (E10S_TESTING_ONLY somehow defined for Aurora builds)

    More on electrolysis:

The Air Mozilla presentation explains that, in Multiprocess Desktop Firefox (Electrolysis), one process is running the UI and add-ons while tabs are running in separate "Child" processes.

According to a PM from ideato, the option existed in Nightly 38 and still exists in Nightly 39 but is gone from Aurora 38:

nightly is in 39 now, exist before in nightly 38, and now in 39, as you said in your post : Bug 1085622 - "Enable E10S (multi-process)" preference checkbox should not be displayed in Aurora's about:preferences (E10S_TESTING_ONLY somehow defined for Aurora builds) not exist in 38 now, developer edition, aurora image:38 aurora, in media gallery

In other words, this is currently a test in Firefox Nightly.

Probably in a next version (i don't known in which version) the e10s will be default, because we are testing the add-ons : http://arewee10syet.com/
