P.S. I added this article to the Need Changes list.

The reason for this change was given in bug 1040868 : The preference to set Firefox as your default browser should be front and center when loading up the preferences. Currently it is buried under advanced options.

Here's a screenshot if the new Firefox 34 General panel on Mac OS X 10.6, when Firefox is not the default browser:

I checked the Advanced panel - Accessibility, browsing, network, updates, and other advanced settings in Firefox article, which describes the default browser setting in Firefox 33. The screenshot in that article is for when Firefox is NOT the default browser, as shown in the Advanced panel General tab section where it says this, under System Defaults:

    • Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup: Select this setting if you want Firefox to check whether it is the default browser at startup. This will ensure Firefox is used whenever an application tries to display a web page.
      • If Firefox is not currently your default browser, clicking the {button Make Firefox the default browser} button will make it your default browser.

Here's a Windows 7 screenshot of the Firefox 34 General panel , when Firefox is not the default browser:

Note that the button in the above screenshot shows "Make Firefox My Default Browser".

P.S. Someone else will have to make a Linux screenshot (it can always be added later).

My mistake ! marked L10 ready, the changes are more important than a linux screenshot (we can add the screenshot at a later time)

    thank you

Thanks. I wasn't sure myself if this should be ready to localize or not without a linux screenshot.

I'll also mark the Make Firefox your default browser as ready to localize even though it's also missing a screenshot for linux.

Thanks for staying on top of this. I agree with the decision to mark is ready for L10N without a Linux screenshot. A screenshot would be a bonus, but it's not absolutely necessary for the article to work.

I'm just catching up on messages, so I apologize for the slow responses this week!
