Firefox 56 preferences have changed. The new Privacy & Security panel now has a single data sharing option to allow Firefox to send technical and interactive data to Mozilla, under the section "Firefox Data Collection and Use". Telemetry is now combined with Firefox Health Report data so both articles will need to be rewritten and/or merged into a single article.

In a related discussion thread at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-health-report-understand-your-browser-perf/discuss/7134 philipp posted a link to this blog post for more background, https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2017/09/06/data-just-living/ ... which includes the following:

The direct impact is that we have made changes to the systems that we use to collect data from Firefox, and we have updated the data collection preferences as a result. Firefox clients no longer employ two different data collection systems (Firefox Health Report and opt-in Telemetry). Although one was on by default, and the other was opt-in, as a practical matter there was no real difference in the type of data that was being collected by the two different channels in release. Because of that, we now rely upon a single system called Unified Telemetry that has aspects of both systems combined into a single data collection platform and as a result no longer have separate preferences, as we did for the old systems.

I set up a "Needs change" entry.

Here's a screenshot we can use. I made it in a new Firefox 56 Beta profile, so it shows the default settings:

    Fx56Privacy&Security-DataCollection

    Fx56Privacy&Security-DataCollection

The data sharing option is "Allow Firefox to automatically send technical and interraction data to Mozilla".

The "Learn more" link next to that option goes to https://www.mozilla.org/legal/privacy/firefox.html#health-report

I found more on Firefox data collection here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Data_Collection

Since this involves a major rewrite (and or merge with the Firefox Health Report article) I filed a bug report and Need-Info'ed Joni: Bug 1400476 - The "Share telemetry data with Mozilla to help improve Firefox" KB article should be rewritten for fx56

P.S. I made a revision for fx56 but left it pending to give Joni a chance to review it.

    From https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/59.0beta/releasenotes/

Changed Changed the location of Firefox Health Report from about:healthreport to about:telemetry

Firefox 59 Beta no longer includes a Help entry for "Firefox Health Report". Here is the "about:telemetry" page in the latest Firefox 59 Beta:

    Fx59AboutTelemetry

I'll change the thread title from [Fx56] to [Fx59] and update the Needs change entry. We should probably update this article to include about:telemetry info and link to this article from the Firefox Health Report - understand your browser performance article, which now has a note for fx59 that FHR applies to older Firefox versions.

I was thinking we could add something like the following to the end of the article for fx59 (not sure if we should include the entire Telemetry Data page or just show the address bar):

    {for fx59}

    Telemetry Data

To view the information about performance, hardware, usage and customizations collected by Telemetry, enter about:telemetry in the address bar. A Telemetry Data report will open.
