Now it is possible to choose the maildir format in the interface. Is Maildir still supposed to be experimental?

Yes, it is still experimental, but development is continuing with a conversion for existing accounts is TB 60. SO will have to edit again before TB60 releases.

I am using it on gmail as well Roland, no issues but the account is static and grows not shrinks. So the bugs like folders not being removed from the file system do not come into play.
