The following has been added to the 9.0 release notes, as the first entry under Known Issues:
Yeah, it's not limited to toolbars though. 9.0.1 should be out soon so I'm going to stick with the downgrade solution until then I think.

Since it's not possible to keep the 9.0 for mac download off of mozilla.com/firefox, this mac startup crash is basically the big issue so far. The work around is to go back to 8.0.1. I'll start the updates to Latest Firefox issues

    Michael,

I think you should re-edit or add something in the "Firefox crashes on startup" paragraph, because the 9.0.1 release seems to solve the problem.

I'm a Mac user and I have several profiles of Firefox for testing. I must say that on my profile where I use the beta channel I haven't encountered problems or crashes on startup with Firefox 9. My OS X is Snow Leopard 10.6.8, maybe the crashes on startup with Firefox 9 involved the latest OS X Lions... I don't know.

I've lost the favicons for bookmarks in the Bookmarks menu after updating to Firefox 9.0.1. Problem solved changing the value of the "image.mem.decodeondraw" preference to False via about:config (as suggested in the article).

Firefox crashes on startup section for Firefox 9:

We should also add a note linking to Firefox crashes - Troubleshoot, prevent and get help fixing crashes for additional help (like we did in the Firefox 8 "Firefox crashes when I start it section) since there may be other reasons why Firefox 9 is crashing at startup.

I see that Michael Verdi just updated this article, which now links to Update Firefox to the latest version for fixing the Firefox 9.0 startup crash. However, this won't help users who have updated to Firefox 9.0 and now can't open Firefox to update to 9.0.1, because Firefox 9.0 crashes at startup.

We should explain how to install an updated Firefox version by downloading the installer from mozilla.org/firefox with another browser (like we did for the Firefox 8.0 startup crashes). Adding that information to the Update Firefox to the latest version article might be helpful, too.
