    Some more unrequested connections that (if correct) should be considered for addition to the article:

    1) NEW BOOLEAN for disabling extension compatibility checking

    extensions.checkCompatibility.---FIREFOX-VERSION---.0 --> value:false e.g. for Fx36.0.1 should be: extensions.checkCompatibility.36.0;false

    SOURCE: http://dottech.org/151458/how-to-disable-compatibility-checks-for-firefox-add-ons-guide/

    2) Disable extensions update

    extensions.update.enabled --> value:false

    SOURCE: https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/how-to-turn-off-add-on-updates/

    3) Disabling tiles

    It seems that 2 additional settings are needed to stop unrequested connections (metrics)

    browser.newtabpage.directory.source and browser.newtabpage.directory.ping should be emptied

    SOURCE: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2888321

    4) Disable Open h264 plugin

    Also it seems that 2 additional prefs should be added in the article:

    media.gmp-gmpopenh264.enabled;false media.gmp-gmpopenh264.provider.enabled;false

    SOURCES: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1028546 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1044268#c10

    5) Disable "Send Video To Device" (Since Fx36)

    Unfortunately this still can't be disabled, but should be mentioned in the article (hopefully would be fixed in Fx37)

    SOURCES: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2911235 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1051712

    I'll try to respond to your first two points and let someone else reply to the others:

    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Extensions.checkCompatibility indicates that this preference (replaced now by the <version> pref) is used to Check extension compatibility on install and update. I also found https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Extension_Versioning,_Update_and_Compatibility but it's a bit outdated and doesn't mention extensions.checkCompatibility.<version> (bug 521905). Anyway, if this check is done as part of auto-update checks then it's already covered in the article, in the User-invoked content -> Extensions section (see #2, below) . If it's done when installing an extension then it's based on user action and doesn't belong in the article.

    2) Disable extensions update extensions.update.enabled --> value:false SOURCE: https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/how-to-turn-off-add-on-updates/

    That's covered in the User-invoked content -> Extensions section. Tools for All Add-ons menu (the gear icon), uncheck Update Add-ons Automatically ... sets "extensions.update.autoUpdateDefault" to false. Related bug: Bug 701987 - Remove checkbox for add-on auto-checking for updates (extensions.update.enabled) from the options window, and make enabling extensions.update.autoUpdateDefault in the add-ons manager also enable extensions.update.enabled.

    I've set everything that is stated in the article but there are still some unrequested connections on Fx 37.0.1 (even new ones!!!)

    1) OpenH264 codec

    First of all, it is not mentioned in the article that media.gmp-gmpopenh264.enabled that should be set to false must be added as a "New Boolean".

    Also, I think that the following 3 settings are needed because there are still some random connections about a minute after firefox startup:

    NEW BOOLEAN: media.gmp-gmpopenh264.autoupdate -> false NEW BOOLEAN: media.gmp-gmpopenh264.provider.enabled -> false SET media.gmp-manager.url -> <blank>

    2) Tiles

    The following 2 prefs should be set to <blank> because they still make a connection on firefox startup even when tiles are disabled !!!

    browser.newtabpage.directory.source -> <blank> browser.newtabpage.directory.ping -> <blank>

    3) Heartbeat (new on Fx37)

    Heartbeat connects to firefox servers

    Disable Heartbeat by setting browser.selfsupport.url to <blank>

    I've set everything that is stated in the article but there are still some unrequested connections on Fx 37.0.1 (even new ones!!!) phillip added additions for Heatbeat and Tiles, which was just approved. He started a new thread for more additions that may be needed, including the adobe EME module or the gecko media plugins in general and treating EME & openh264 as subsection of that.
