This slide deck is built in Webmaker Thimble, essentially a what-you-see-is-what-you-get editor that also will host the translated version you create. To begin translating the Knowledge Base Popup Slide Deck you need a Webmaker account.

  1. Click here to make an account if you do not have one already.
  2. Once you have an account copy and paste this make https://binab.makes.org/thimble/knowledge-base-take-8 in a new browser window.
  3. Click the Remix button to create your own make that you will begin to translate.

You should now have a window with a text editor full of code on the left and the slides on the right. Thimble Window Most of the content in the slides are from these articles: Anatomy of a Knowledge Base Article How To Write Knowledge Base Articles

The text that needs translation is the all black plain text (not bolded text). The first line that needs translation is line 11 in the editor window. It reads "Knowledge Base".

Then you will move on to the slide content. Each slide is marked with "<-- 'slide description' -->" at the beginning. If the slide has an image that is not translatable and isn't critical for the tutorial delete the full slide from the start div tag to the ending div tag.

The first slide begins on line 23. Translate what is in black on line 25 and line 29.

Proceed through the slides, some have video content, if there is no video available, just delete the whole slide and the reference to the video in the previous slide.

Once all the slides have been translated you can get the link to create your button.

In the upper right corner of yout Thimble is a "Publish" button. Click that and follow the instructions to save your make. At the end you will be given a link to copy. Copy the link.

With that link on your clipboard then open this Thimble make for the button https://binab.makes.org/thimble/button Paste your link over the exisitng one on line 16. You should be able to click the new button in the WYSIWYG window on the right.

Translate the name of the button on line 16 by editing "Become a Tech Writing Ninja".

You can now select the code between lines 9 and 42 and paste them wherever you would like your button to appear.

Thanks!
