Add-ons allow you to customize Firefox to your liking by either improving your browsing experience in an infinite number of ways or changing the appearance of your browser such as how you would change the background picture of your desktop. We'll show you the various ways you can get and install add-ons to Firefox.

Get an add-on

Browsing for add-ons is a great way to discover ones you never knew you needed.

  1. Click the menu button Fx89menuButton, click Add-ons and themes and select Get Add-ons.
    Get Add-ons
  2. From this tab, you will see Featured Add-ons as well as Featured Themes that have been chosen by the Mozilla community due to their usefulness and quality. Clicking on any of them will allow you to view pictures as well as user reviews to get a better idea of how they might work for you. You can also use the search bar on the top-right corner to find additional add-ons.
    • To browse through all available add-ons, enter https://addons.mozilla.org/ into your address bar to head to the add-ons site directly.

Install an add-on

Once you have found an add-on you would like to use, you can install it easily.

  1. Click on the Add to Firefox button that appears below the name of the add-on.
    • If you are viewing a list of add-ons from the add-ons website, you will need to hover the cursor over the add-on for the button to appear.
    • If you searched for the add-on using the Add-ons Manager tab, simply click the Install button on the right side of the screen.
  2. Wait for the Install(#) button timer to finish and then click on Install Now to proceed.
    • Add-ons installed from the Search panel will simply show the progress status after you click the Install button from the prior step.
  3. After the add-on is installed, you may be prompted to restart Firefox; click Restart now to begin using the add-on.

Remove an add-on

If an add-on you downloaded has undesired results or you simply do not wish to use it you can remove it this way:

  1. Click the menu button Fx89menuButton, click Add-ons and themes and select Extensions.
    • If it is a cosmetic add-on such as a theme, click on the Appearance panel.
  2. Click the Remove button on the right-hand side of the add-on in the list.
    • Alternatively, if you simply wish to prevent it from being active, you can click the Disable button.
