Updating Firefox often causes problems!

I think my present Firefox is 39. Must I update? I am 77 years old and problems make me frantic because my knowledge is very limited. I use my desktop computer for business as well as pleasure...my son is a very busy man with a wife & 4 children...and doesn't have much time to help his Mom! I have no one else to help me. Funds are limited so cannot have my own guru!

Firefox has automatically tried to update...apparently I have OK in settings. Which is fine...but am afraid to manually download...thinking if they cannot complete, there must be a problem somewhere.

Please tell me why I must do this? And if I choose to do so, even if no immediate problems, I read there will be other things I must do. If so will I be able to handle that? It seems to me I recently updated...and that now entails a yahoo search engine...which I must change every time to get to my AOL mail. I tolerate that but am not pleased...but it is a Firefox preference so I went along not being knowledgeable enough to not follow their wish.

Also I have disabled my Adobe Flash which causes problems from time to time. Has adobe problem been fixed ...and should I enable?

Hope someone can answer all this...

    Ann

Hello Ann, sorry but this forum is not the place for getting help with Firefox. In this area contributors discuss for that specific article(How do I create a screenshot of my problem? article).

Please ask again your question in the support forum. See : Get community support.

But, i'll try your first question : my present Firefox is 39. Must I update?

Yes, almost always an updated browser is a safer and faster browser.

If you have a mac and you can not update, then, do not be afraid and download and install firefox, follow the next steps:

    1. Download a copy of the latest firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html (full dmg package)

    2. Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean install.

    3. Install the version that you have downloaded.

Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.
