    1) The for fx39 content in this article is actually what I see in fx40 Beta. Here's what I see in Fx39 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/gallery/image/22543 Here's what I see in Fx40 Beta: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/gallery/image/22546

    2) The about:config instructions should be removed since the preference is going away in fx41. See bug 1118285 comment 77

    There's already a SUMO article at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-tab-page-show-hide-and-customize-top-sites#w_how-do-i-turn-the-new-tab-page-off

    Who do we need to reach out to, to ensure the paragraph starting with "You can also turn this feature off completely" gets removed (at least for Firefox 41+) ?

    I don't known if it is the right time for that, but i think must be mentioned the New Tab Override (browser.newtab.url replacement) addon, for 41.

    we have done it before in similar situations (revert some preference for Australis etc)

    IMO when 41 become stable, certainly many questions will be because there is no the newtab option, as we known it now :-) IMO

    thank you

    Hi, The add-on page says, This add-on brings back the ability to change the page which is shown when opening a new tab.

    I don't know if a link to that add-on would fit into this article or another New Tab article like Customize the New Tab page or About the New Tab page. I took the liberty to copy your post to the contributor forum thread, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/711446#post-66354

    I totally agree on at least mentioning the fact that browser.newtab.url no longer works. Since the info about the pref appears to have been written for pre 41 (and may be the only info in the KB), it’s just no longer mentioned anywhere, while the article’s unhelpfulness stats for my locale as well as for en-US has drastically multiplied. The same question keeps popping up in the KB forum as well, so apparently users just don’t find the info they need.

    Could anyone add a section briefly describing the reason why it was removed, as well as how to find an alternative like the add-on mentioned?

    Adding the pref itself as a keyword to the article probably won’t be necessary since the article already shows up in search results, but the fact current content is pre 41 only makes it worse because it will not be shown. Maybe adding “custom” or related words would help a bit instead?

    Edit: I don’t really mind what article it will be mentioned in, as long as it will be easy to find and all three (this one and the ones Alice mentioned above) have a reference to it (or to customizing tabs the old way in general.) Sidenote: this article may need a TOC.?

    The Disable New Tab controls section currently shows the following {for not fx41} To hide everything on the New Tab page, including the New Tab controls, follow these steps:

    1. [[Template:aboutconfig]]
    2. Type browser.newtab.url in the search box.
    3. Double-click the {pref browser.newtab.url} preference and change the url from {pref about:newtab} to {pref about:blank}. Alternately, you can change it to {pref about:home} or your preferred home page by typing in its url.
    4. Click {button OK} and close the about:config tab.

    {/for}

    I made a revision to add this to the end of that section: {for fx41} To hide everything on the New Tab page, including the New Tab controls (or to choose the page that opens in a new tab) you can install the New Tab Override (browser.newtab.url replacement) add-on. {/for}

    <!-- I am using the current May 2016 Firefox, but I have lost my cascade favorite websites page, when I open Firefox I only get my home page and not the second tab page which had my six favorite websites, also click on any link and it does not open in a new tab as it always has done and I have used Firefox from the start.--> <Misplaced support request removed by moderator.> A new question has already been posted in the Support forum, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1123418
