Consider adding more links to this article (was: Changed category from "Navigation" to "How to")

  1. https://github.com/mozilla/sumo-project/issues/317 Change link for 'Ask the Community' button within forum page / logged out user jess-cook03 commented 2 days ago • (quote) This button CTA should link to the start of AAQ to align with the rest of these buttons on the site -- all linking to the AAQ. Currently it links to a KB article and we are no longer going to link to those hidden articles.

The "Ask the Community" link on the staging site no longer links to this article. I changed the Category from "Navigation" to "How to" so that people can find this article with a search.

  2. Hi Alice, The Get community support page is for locales that don't use the support.mozilla.org forum. Many popular locales already have their own forums on their own sites. By default, Get community support is part of the support.mozilla.org top menu instead of https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new. Localizers can then localize the Get community support page to point users to their forums.

For example, German users arrive at https://support.mozilla.org/de/, which has a link in the top menu to https://support.mozilla.org/de/kb/get-community-support. On that page, Firefox users are pointed to http://www.thunderbird-mail.de/forum/index.php and the firefox.de channel.

French users arrive at https://support.mozilla.org/fr/, which has a link in the top menu to https://support.mozilla.org/fr/kb/get-community-support. On that page, Firefox users are pointed to http://forums.mozfr.org/viewforum.php?f=5

I'm moving this back to the Navigation category.

The "Ask the Community" link on the staging site no longer links to the Get community support article. That's unfortunate, since that article has useful information, including Mozilla Support rules and guidelines and other support resources. 4. Alice, I'm not sure what you're trying to tell me. This is not live on the staging site. If I go to https://support.allizom.org/de/ the "Die Gemeinschaft fragen" link still goes to https://support.allizom.org/de/kb/get-community-support.

If there's confusion, could you please verify this with Joni?

  5. Product pages such as https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/firefox currently link here from the "Ask the Community" link at the bottom. The "Ask the Community" links at https://support.allizom.org/en-US/ and product pages such as https://support.allizom.org/en-US/products/firefox now go to https://support.allizom.org/en-US/questions/new

I believe that this article still has value for the English KB; for example, it links to Mozilla Support rules and guidelines and other support resources. It also explains about signing in or creating an account before you can ask a question (that may need updating). Having this article in the Navigation category doesn't make much sense if you can't navigate to it, since you won't be able to find it with a normal search.

Placing this article in the How to category isn't a great solution, I'll admit, but I still think en-US users should be able to find it.

These en-US articles currently link to this article:

Get started with Firefox - An overview of the main features Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox problems No crash report available for this report ID Uninstall Firefox for Android How does support localization work? I'm having problems with my Firefox Account Avoid and report Mozilla tech support scams Lockwise losing login information after Firefox update

When the https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/ product pages no longer link to this article we can consider whether additional Get community support links are needed in other articles.

Having this article in the Navigation category doesn't make much sense if you can't navigate to it

Navigation is as follows: https://support.allizom.org/de/ > Get Help > Die Gemeinschaft fragen Here's a video showing it in action: https://youtu.be/l5UFbcJ6K5U

It won't be there for locales that have a support forum set up here, such as en-US.

I'll contact the dev team about fixing the links on product landing pages for locales that don't have a forum here. German and French users are not supposed to be pointed to our forum.

I posted the following in the contributor forum thread, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/713979

On the staging site, locales that don't have a support.mozilla.org forum, such as French and German, still link to the SUMO support forums from the Get Help link; for example:

Under the https://support.allizom.org/fr/ and https://support.allizom.org/de/ Get Help menu, left section, the "Firefox Browser" link goes to https://support.allizom.org/questions/new/desktop
