Abode has recently updated Flash to version 11.3. Some users have reported that this version of Flash is crashing more frequently than previous versions of Flash. If you are experiencing excess crashes, please downgrade to version 11.2 of Flash.

Note: This article only applies to Windows and Mac.
Note: This article is specifically for crashes with Flash 11.3. If you are experiencing issues with Flash 11.3 such as video appearing black, white or grey and never playing, please see Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox.

Uninstall Flash 11.3

To uninstall Flash 11.3 on Windows, you will need to use the uninstaller provided by Adobe.

Note: You may want to write down these steps or print them out as you will have to close Firefox during this process.
  1. Download the uninstaller program from Adobe - uninstall_flash_player.exe (671 KB)
  2. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then select ExitAt the top of the Firefox window, click on the File menu and then select ExitOn the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Quit FirefoxAt the top of the Firefox window, click on the File menu and select Quit

  3. Run the uninstall Flash program that you download and follow the prompts.
  4. When you are finished, start Firefox again and continue with the next section - Install Flash 11.2

Install Flash 11.2

Note: You may want to write down these steps or print them out as you will have to close Firefox during this process.
  1. Download the archive of older versions of Flash from the Adobe site - Flash 11.2 (170MB)
  2. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then select ExitAt the top of the Firefox window, click on the File menu and then select ExitOn the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Quit FirefoxAt the top of the Firefox window, click on the File menu and select Quit

  3. Open your downloads folder and look for the file named fp_11.2.202.233_archive.zip
  4. Double-click the fp_11.2.202.233_archive.zip file and browse though the folders. You will have to look for the Flash 11.2 installer. It is named flashplayer11_2r202_233_win_32bit.exe (If you are using the 64-bit version of Firefox, look for the installer named flashplayer11_2r202_233_win_64bit.exe)
  5. Drag the installer to your desktop, then double-click it to start the installation.

  6. The last step of the Flash install program asks you to choose your update method. You should choose Notify me when updates are available to prevent Flash 11.3 from being re-installed automatically.

    Important: It will be important to install the update that fixes this issues as using the latest version of Flash is critical to keeping your computer safe.

  3. Double-click the .dmg file that you downloaded to open a folder with the uninstall Flash program.
  4. Double-click the uninstall Flash program and follow the prompts.
  5. When you are finished, start Firefox again and continue with the next section - Install Flash 11.2

Install Flash 11.2

  3. Open your downloads folder and look for the file named fp_11.2.202.233_archive.zip
  4. Double-click the fp_11.2.202.233_archive.zip file it will create a folder called fp_11.2.202.233_archive. Open that folder and look for the Flash 11.2 installer. It is named flashplayer11_2r202_233_mac.dmg
  5. Double-click flashplayer11_2r202_233_mac.dmg to open a folder with the Flash 11.2 install program.

  6. Double-click the Flash 11.2 installer and follow the prompts to complete the installation.
