Customize your New Tab page to hide or display content

You can personalize your New Tab page to show the search box, shortcuts to your most visited sites, recommended stories, pages you've visited or bookmarked recently, or nothing at all. This article will show you how to change this content.

Change your New Tab page content

  1. In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click Firefox and select Preferences. Click the menu button Fx57Menu and select OptionsPreferences.Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select Settings.

  2. Select the Home panel.
  3. Under Firefox Home Content, put a checkmark next to the sections you want to see on your New Tab page. Some sections have a drop-down panel to choose the number of rows you want to view.
    • Web Search: This turns the Search the Web box on or off on the New Tab page.
    • Top Sites: This shows your most visited sites.
    Sponsored Top Sites: Select this check box to see the occasional sponsored site. To learn more, see Sponsored tiles on the New Tab page.
    • Recommended by Pocket: (U.S., Canada, U.K. and Germany only) This shows you stories that are popular among Pocket users.
    Sponsored Stories: Select this check box to see the occasional Pocket sponsored story. To learn more, see Pocket sponsored stories on new tabs and Firefox New Tab FAQ (Pocket site).
    • Highlights: This shows your recent Web activity. You can choose to display pages you've recently visited, bookmarked or saved to pocket, as well as your most recent download.

      • Most Recent Download
      • Pages Saved to Pocket

Tip: You can also change your Firefox Home Content by clicking the cogwheel Fx88NewTabCogwheel icon at the top right corner of the New Tab page.
  1. Click the Personalize buttongear Fx89Personalize-GearIcon icon on the top right corner of the New Tab page.

  2. Click the toggle next to a section to switch it on Fx89Personalize-ToggleOn or off Fx89Personalize-ToggleOff, to show or hide that section.
    • Shortcuts: This displays your most visited sites. (Use the drop-down menu to indicate how many rows of Shortcuts you want to view).
    Sponsored shortcuts: Select this check box to see the occasional sponsored site. To learn more, see Sponsored tiles on the New Tab page.
    • Recommended by Pocket: (U.S., Canada, U.K. and Germany only) This displays stories that are popular among Pocket users.
    Sponsored Stories: Select this check box to see the occasional sponsored Pocket story. To learn more, see Pocket sponsored stories on new tabs and Firefox New Tab FAQ (Pocket site).
    • Recent activity: This displays recent Web activity, such as pages you've visited or bookmarked. To choose what type of content is displayed, go to your Firefox OptionsPreferencesSettings Home panel (see below).

Tip: Here's another way to access your Firefox Home settings panel:

  1. In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click Firefox and select Preferences. Click the menu button Fx57Menu and select OptionsPreferences.Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select Settings.

  2. Select the Home panel.

Blank New Tab page

If you prefer a blank page when you open a new tab:

  1. In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click Firefox and select Preferences. Click the menu button Fx57Menu and select OptionsPreferences.Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select Settings.

  2. Select the Home panel.
  3. Under New Windows and Tabs, select Blank Page from the New tabs drop-down menu.

  2. Click Fx89Personalize-GearIcon Manage more settings at the bottom of the panel.
  3. In New Windows and Tabs, select Blank Page from the New tabs drop-down menu.
