I think that Cannot uninstall an extension or theme or Cannot remove an extension or theme would be a better title because this article is about extensions and themes, not plugins.

I'm on the fence about this.

I would agree with changing the title to Cannot remove an add-on (rather than "cannot uninstall") since extensions and themes have a "Remove" button (rather than "uninstall") in the Add-ons Manager. That's covered in the Disable or remove Add-ons article, which links here.

Lots of people would look for an article with "add-ons" in the title, when they want to disable or remove any add-on (extension, theme, or plugin). The term "add-on" is used for extensions and themes in the Add-ons Manager "Get Add-ons" panel and at addons.mozilla.org - that's how most Firefox users refer to extensions. Anyway, the article explains this in the search summary and intro (copied below). Lets wait to see what Joni or others think about a title change.

    Search summary:

This article describes how to uninstall an extension or theme that can't be removed normally. This includes problematic toolbars and search bars.

    Article Intro:

This article describes how to uninstall an extension or theme that can't be removed by following the instructions in Disable or remove Add-ons or Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page.
    * If you are not able to uninstall a plugin, see Manually uninstalling a plugin.

P.S. I also noticed that the article Unable to install add-ons was renamed "Unable to install add-ons or extensions" at some point. (there's no record of why or by whom). Having "add-ons or extensions" makes no sense to me, since extensions ARE add-ons. I would have left that title "Unable to install add-ons" with an explanation in the summary and Intro ... or else changed the title to "Unable to install add-ons (extensions or themes)" *.

[*] Update: I changed that title today, from "Unable to install add-ons or extensions" to "Unable to install add-ons (extensions or themes)". Related discussion: /en-US/kb/unable-install-add-ons-exte.../5855 [[Unable to install add-ons]] now redirects to Unable to install add-ons (extensions or themes)

I know if I do a search for the word add-on gets a top hit on Firefox. extensions does not so I think it seems a good idea to keep add-on prominent

I wonder if this may be a case where the title could be changed but then the wording of the summary amended to include add-on. Also make this an exceptional case where add-on and "addon" are included in the keywords. Probably also keep add-on in the slug.

A less elegant method of hedging bets and ensuring both wordings are prominent would be to expand the title. That's still short enough for Google.

    • add-ons - Cannot remove a theme or extension

Is it worth considering publishing two articles as an experiment and comparing hits & helpfulness. That may be biased though in favour of the pre existing article

If people agree that the title needs to be changed to something that includes "extension or theme" then my suggestion would be, Cannot remove an add-on (extension or theme)
