Note: This article describes the "Block Autoplay" feature being tested in studies or in Nightly (pre-release) versions of Firefox. This feature will be available to all users in a future Firefox release.

Firefox blocks all media with sound from playing automatically. If you want a website to automatically play media, you can give it permission by following one of the methods below.

Notification prompts

When a website tries to play media automatically, Firefox will alert you by showing a message. Choose Allow or Don’t Allow to let Firefox remember the settings for this website. If you uncheck Remember this decision, Firefox will remember the settings for this website in the current tab only.

Click “i” to open the control center to ask Firefox to forget the settings.

Add sites to your list to automatically play audible media

  1. In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click Firefox and then select Preferences or Settings, depending on your macOS version.Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select Settings.
  2. Go to the Permissions section in Privacy & Security panel.
  3. Look for For websites that autoplay sound and click Exceptions to manage your list.

Always allow all media to play automatically

To enable or disable all autoplay media with sound, click the drop down menu to choose Allow Autoplay or Don’t Autoplay. Your selection will apply to all media for all websites.
