SUMO for Facebook

  1. Hi everybody,

As you have seen from the SUMO day post we're trying a little experiment with Facebook. We have been thinking for a while on how can we expand SUMO efforts to other channels, particularly Facebook. There are a lot of users there that don't even know that we exist and that right now we cannot reach.

On the Mozilla Firefox Facebook page there are a lot of comments from people having issues with their browser that right now don't receive any kind of answers. The idea is to start answering to those people and direct them to SUMO. We can use canned responses as in Army of Awesome or simply reply to them as in a support forum thread.

The cool thing is that we will have access to the Marketing Calendar. This means we will know beforehand what kind of posts are going to be there the following week and watch the ones which are likely to trigger loads of comments. Also, the contributors who are very active can become page moderators and post as Mozilla Firefox.

So, how about joining a Facebook Army of Awesome?

My thoughts exactly; SUMO Contributors should be able to post consice answers as Mozilla Firefox and post links to SUMO articles and, if they've any time left, post comments, perhaps in the form of canned replies (but that'll be hard in the abcense of an app, though? So, maybe ctrl+v from a list, sort of…).

This shounds like a nice idea and might help spread the word quicker. I'm sure many of us who are Facebook users have expereinced at some point, exactly how quick things spread on Facebook.

I, for one, am very interested in getting invloved in this project group!

  3. @ krissie,

It's great that you want to help! We're working on improving the canned responses right now. We can start by using the ones that are already there for the Twitter AoA but it would be good if we had some specifically designed for Facebook.

I say the way to start is to go on the Mozilla Firefox Facebook page, try to answer some comments with your own username and let's see how it goes. We're still in a phase where we're just trying things so any feedback would be great. Also join #armyofawesome on IRC and let's start building our small FB army :)
