So basically I've been using Firefox for quite some time now, I have a load of bookmarks and I frequently have upwards of 50> tabs usually <100. I use an old OS - Vista.

I have found Firefox to be stable until recently, as it is really unstable. I am almost crashing a lot of the time. What I mean by almost crashing, is that the browser stop registering my clicks and the page(s) I am viewing go cloudy and the browser goes in a 'not responding mode'. However, it rarely actually closes Firefox and crashes properly to desktop. But I usually have to wait a good 10-30 seconds for it to respond and return to normal. Sadly, this happens often and it is quite common for a 'not responding' problem to be followed by another immediately after.

I have sometimes lost old 'restore sessions', so I may have edited a few things in my directory - but I don't see why that would affect the stability of the browser in this way.

Again, the problem is not that Firefox crashes full on to desktop; it's that it goes into a 'Not Responding Mode' more than frequently.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Rich

On a site that specifies the base font size as 75%, Firefox refuses to follow that and shows everything at 100% font size; other browsers show fonts at 75%.

In Options, I have set Firefox to allow a site to change the default 16px font size, and before the last FF update, all was well. As I said in the initial statement of the problem, Edge and Chrome show the base font size at the stated 75%. Obviously I can change this everytime I visit the site, but that should not be necessary. I have no zoom ad-ins installed.

I've been having trouble staying signed into my homepage (MSN). Every time I close Firefox I get signed out so that when I open Firefox I have to sign in to my homepage again. My other sites are still signed in (yahoo, Facebook) It is only MSN. This is something I've been having trouble with for awhile. I did get it to work last month but I signed out to use another account and when I signed back into my usual account again it will no longer keep me signed in. All other browsers will keep me signed in and my other computers keep me signed into MSN using Firefox. I don't know how I got it to work last time. I've tried making a new Firefox Profile, Reinstalling Firefox, Clearing all Mozilla files including regedit files, Restarting my pc and doing a fresh install without connecting to my Firefox account still no luck. I'm at a loss. I think last time I did something with some cookies file splith? spilf? I don't remember what it's called or where I even read about it. I'm hoping someone can help me. I've had to start using Chrome again but I'd prefer to go back to my Firefox.

This problem started in the last few days. I have Foxfire 47.0.1. There are no updates available to download. When I try "Refresh" as indicated on your support page to fix this problem, the "confirmation" page does not start up, nor does Mozilla show up in the task manager applications. It does show up in the Processes and is using large amounts of CPU and memory. I have to stop the processes to get my computer back. What other suggestions for getting back to normal?

I don't find ANYTHING in Mozilla support about synchronizing two e-mail address lists.

For example, I have a long-existing Yahoo e-mail account (over 18 years), and now I have the Yahoo e-mail extension for Mozilla Firefox. This extension does not know anything about the address list or address book in my Yahoo e-mail, and I do not see anything about synchronizing the two programs so that they have the same address list. If you don't like the words "synchronize" or "synch" for doing this, then it is up to you to think up some different terminology. In my case, if I have an address list in my PC, and then I copy that by hand onto pieces of paper, I then have two address lists that are synchronized. Synchronizing two address lists by computer should be much easier than this, and if I make a new entry in one address list, then it should be automatically copied onto the other, keeping them "synchronized".

As it stands now, if I click on the word TO:, or click by it, in your Yahoo e-mail extension, it does absolutely nothing but sit there with its tail stuck in its ear.

SOMETIMES if a dropdown only has a few items, it doesn't hang. But inevitably the next dropdown (e.g. the months of a year) has enough items to cause the hangup. This has been true through several updates of Firefox. Hope the next one fixes this bug. You are sending me over to - and over the - Edge for certain sites that never work on Firefox. Please don't send me away entirely! Thanks.

Many people seem to be reporting recently that they are getting an orange fake "Urgent Firefox Update" screen popping up and then a download box for firefox patch.exe or such. It is my impression that this may be a security flaw.

It tends to happen when I have several windows open with Facebook and newssites, and it happens very quickly so I can't be 100% sure what happens, but it is my impression that a new tab is created with the orange screen. It seems this happens without my clicking on anything, I may be just sitting there reading and suddenly this happens. I wonder if it is an exploit emanating from ads on these newssites that takes control of Firefox and gets it to make the new tab. If so this is very disturbing because I have my Firefox on quite secure settings, my Java is Never Activate, most of my plug-ins including Flash are Ask to Activate and I rarely do need to activate it. In addition, I am careful which websites I go to. I have Firefox up to date and on automatic update. Every time I start my computer I make sure Kaspersky has updated before I start browsing.

The exploit has happened 3 times in the past week including both yesterday and today. The first time, even though I did not click on the install dialog, Kaspersky detected a Dangerous Object being downloaded and quarantined it instantly. I then had Kaspersky delete it. It had downloaded to the AppData Local Temp folder. The second and third time, nothing happened immediately so I had time to look. I closed Firefox and it seemed that prevented those instances from downloading, as Kaspersky did not detect anything either instantly or after Full Scan.

I am wondering if this is a security flaw in Firefox and if I need to switch to Chrome. Any help would be appreciated In the meantime as I much prefer Firefox. I will limit my browsing to the most essential, avoid clicking on any links in Facebook and try to avoid newssites.

Firefox started crashing with recent 47.0 update. Has continued with 47.0.1

Tried disabling all addons and also my Comodo Internet Security Premium.

As soon as Facebook loads, FF crashes. Other sites work fine. I can open Facebook in Chrome, so it is not a problem with Facebook or my internet connection.

Here are the some of the last several crash reports:

With the last week or so, web pages have been loading more slowly, and sometimes not so well. A number of times I noticed that even though a page had finished loading, according to the browser and what I can see about its on-screen content, network activity, as shown by task manager, remains near full bandwidth. This is also true if I stop any page (click on the X at the right of the address).

The connection Status (of my dial-up service) shows activity in both directions but heavily towards receiving (i.e. something is being downloaded, no?).

Normally, I need to either let a page finish, or stop it, before I can start loading a new page in a new tab or different window, or download a file, because there just isn't enough bandwidth to handle more than one thing at a time. I don't allow automatic updates of anything.

Investigating further today I see that if the browser is open, bandwidth is constantly full, even with no page loaded. Closing the browser terminates network activity within a few seconds. If I Restart with Add-ons Disabled, the network activity ceases but if I instead individually Disable every add-on and plugin shown in the Add-on Manager, network activity stays high (even after closing and restarting the browser).

I see in the Firefox Health Report, under Active Add-ons, the number 6 for extensions, but only three extensions are listed by the Add-on Manager. All of this strongly suggest to me that something is going on, out of sight, in the browser. How can I find it and get rid of it?

By the way, I've used this forum several times since 2010. I have my username and password recorded here so that I can't lose them. However, everytime I want to sing -on I am not recognized and must request a password reset. I "reset" to the same password and it works -- until next time. This is very time wasting. Can it be fixed?
