bold text how do i move bookmarks along the bookmarks tab

I have just bought a new computer. Got firefox working and I have bookmarks on the bookmarks tab below the search box.

I used to be able to move bookmark tabs along it and it was my main organisational method.

OR I would drag a url down from the search bar to put it on the bookmark tab below

neither of these methods work any longer and it is a real problem.

I cannot think of a worst thing you could have done.

Help how do i move a bookmark along the bookmark tab, or move a url to the bookmark tab, or move those bookmarks which I can't see to the visible section below the search bar

I'm running 145.0.2 on Mint Linux and Windows 11...

Like many other users, I have an issue in which roughly half of the icons representing bookmarks on my Bookmarks Toolbar have been replaced by the black+and+white icon of a globe. The links work, but because most of them are now the same, it means I have to hover over them to make sure I click on the link I want.

I've tried: Exporting all my bookmarks to HTML; deleting all bookmarks; re-importing Deleting the "favicons.sqlite" database and letting Firefox recreate it Creating a new Profile and importing all my bookmarks "fresh" in to there

Not only does none of this seem to work, the results are actually inconsistent.

This problem has been kicking around for years - certainly for many major releases of the browser. I understand that there could be deep/complicated issues such as a corrupt user profile, for example...

Unfortunately, however, there does not appear to be any consistent or reliable effective advice on how to fix this issue... and nothing I try seems to resolve the problem.

I'd be very grateful for any recommendations on a reliable repair for this issue.

But I'd also be grateful for suggestions as to how we might go about suggesting to the devs that this long-running bug is overdue a permanent fix.

When using DuckDuckGo Search I cannot drag and drop the search URL into my Bookmarks. I can drag and drop a Google Chrome search URL into my Bookmarks as usual. Also, the correct URL is not shown for the search using DuckDuckGo. See attached screenshot.

Please resolve.

Bookmark sidebar is visible, but bookmarks are not visible. bookmark icon show but the bookmark name is not.

Hello there; I had installed the "savefrom.net" extension. This extension automatically generated the website address to the "bookmarks toolbar". I deleted the extension and deleted the shortcut as well. But when the bookmarked website shortcut "firefox" is closed and reopened, it adds itself to the bookmarks toolbar again. No matter what I did, it didn't work. I don't want to delete Firefox completely and reinstall it. Because there are too many shortcuts and data that I use all the time. How do you think I can solve this problem?

All of a sudden I can no longer add bookmarks to my Firefox desktop. At this point I can not even access the "Bookmark current tab." Are there settings that control the Bookmarks section. Thank you

The right click on a Folder on the Bookmarks Toolbar and choosing Sort by name stopped working. Please, fix it.

When I choose to bookmark a website, I am no longer offered a chance to save to where I want it saved.

So, now I have to bookmark a page, and open the bookmark menu again to EDIT the bookmark to move it. This is Horrible. I have to do this eachj time I bookmark a page. I am veriy organized and have dozens of bookmark folder, some with folders within folders... etc.

Onliy children need to be treated this way.

I have searched the settings and find nothing. I am not using any add-on that has anything to do with bookmark. I do not use the bookmark toolbars or other bookmark interfaces. Just the file/edit... menu "bookmarks" option.,

Has this ability been removed?

Am I understanding this correctly?

HTML backup (bookmarks) doesn't support tags and annotations, but JSON backup does, and JSON backup doesn't preserve the website favicons, but HTML backup does?  

So, what I can do, is restore my (saved) bookmarks using JSON backup, then restore the HTML backup, this would get my tags and annotations, and the website favicons back? But the downside, I will need to remove duplicates?

I cannot figure out how to export my bookmarks from Mozilla Account. On the desktop browser when I open "Manage Bookmarks" and select Phil's Bookmarks, I am able to export the bookmarks from the Mozilla account.

The resulting html export file does not contain the bookmarks from Mozilla Account. There also does not seem to be a way to export those bookmarks from your online Mozilla Account interface.

How do I export the bookmarks from my Mozilla Account?

Is it possible to combine history/bookmark files? Firefox has truncated my "History" to 15 days and the only option I see to get elder entries is to combine a backupped history file with the current one. An easy-to-use tool for this task would be welcome. I did not change my config options after the update to 121.0.1 (64-Bit) (Windows 10pro) but I think I had the total history (from years) before the update. I thought I had two different accounts. Home, with my personal email and work, with my work email. My work computer crashed a few months ago, and out IT department was able to recover all my bookmarks, but it wasn't easy, so I was told. I decided to do what I do at home and that was to create an account for work, which I did. I now have an account for home with it's own bookmarks, and email, and a work account with it's own bookmarks and totally different email. I recently got a work phone. In the process of setting it up I synced it up with my work account. when I came home tonight I got online and all my work bookmarks were on my home computer. How did this happen? Now I don't have my home bookmarks. I tried signing out and signing back in with my home account, but no luck. This is very frustrating especially since they are two totally different accounts. SO, how do I get my home bookmarks back on my home computer? Thanks

Hi, Folks. When I open "manage bookmarks" (Library), why does it always open at "other bookmarks"? This is at the very bottom of the alphabetical list (and empty) so I always have to scroll back up to the top. I've got a lot of bookmarks, so this is extremely irritating. How do I change this? I've searched for an answer. The only likely solutions suggest removing the "other bookmarks" folder, but the description of how to do that doesn't work. Nowhere can I find a "remove other bookmarks" option. And the delete option is greyed out.

I don't necessarily need to hide or remove it, as long as I can get the bookmarks manager/Library to open at the top, ie. "Bookmarks Menu".

I reinstalled my computer from scratch with Windows 11, before this reinstallation I had Windows 10. Now I noticed that with the newest Firefox version 109 (that I also had before with Windows 10) and Windows 11 my multirow bookmarks toolbar doesn´t work anymore. Before the reinstallation it worked with the following code:

I already tried some other codes that I found in the internet but none of them worked. I have this code in the file userChrome.css, this file is in a chrome folder and this folder is in my profile folder. Can anybody tell me what I have to do to make the multirow bookmarks toolbar working again?

When I save new bookmarks I can't find them to open them. The list of folders I see in the "Choose . . ." selection is different from the list of folders l see when trying to open a bookmark. The bookmarks seem to be saving in one list but opening from a different list. How do I replace the list Firefox opens bookmarks from with the list the new bookmarks are saved in?

Something went wrong w/ the mouse, some of my tags disappeared & wasn't able to recover them via Ctrl+Z, so I decided to perform my 1st [Restore] (never had to do 1 before), since I had just recently done an [Export Bookmarks] & a [Backup]. Everything seems to have gone Ok, except that for every tag, all of the bookmarks listed under the [Name] column are duplicated. When I right-click & [Show In Folder], they both show in the same folder. When going onto their folder, they are only shown once, so there are no duplicates there. When I attempt to [Delete] 1 of the 2 duplicate entries they both get [Deleted], so I can only conclude that they are 1 in the same. But the question remains, "How can I fix this duplicate condition?"

Another related & interesting behavior is that, from any bookmark folder where you can clearly see there are no duplicated bookmarks, when you do a [Search] from the top-right-hand search-box, the "results" are also "duplicated", although you might need to sort them by clicking on the [Name] column control. So, I can go to any bookmark folder & clearly see that there are no duplicate bookmarks, but when you do a [Search], that's when you get duplicate entries. That leads me to believe that this is the result of the [Search] function, & thus for some odd reason the [Search] is generating "duplicate entries". And then perhaps, both the [Tag]s & the [Search] function are related.

Also, this "duplication" does not happen on newer added bookmarks, after the [Restore] was executed, & it's only a phenomenon that affects those bookmarks that were saved by the Bookmarks' Library [Backup] function, & thus this anomaly was introduced by the [Backup].

Actually, I just realized the problem is more complicated than I thought. The reason any search results in "duplicate bookmarks" is because there are 2 sets of folders, 1 set above the other, & if you don't scroll down all the way you won't see it. So that's why there are actually "2 Sets Of Bookmarks", because there are "2 Sets Of Folders", 1 above the other. The problem is that when you delete any "Duplicate Bookmark" you delete them both, & not just 1 of the 2 bookmarks.

I wonder if it would work, to "Delete All Bookmarks" & then do a [Restore]?

Could "Mozilla Support" answer that?

Don't know why every time I attempt to [Post A Reply] & get an "Error",... So I'm going to post my reply right here,...

Fix: (2024-02-19) Of course, I did some testing before I concluded what was the best approach, but since I noticed all of the "Bookmarks Folders" were duplicated under [Bookmarks Menu], an easy fix is to go to the "bottom duplicated folder", right on top of the [Other Bookmarks] folder, & "Select It" (by clicking on it) & [Delete] it (w/ the [Delete] key on your keyboard). Do this 1 by 1, until you reach the "bottom folder" of the bookmarks' folder you certainly don't want to delete. Close Firefox & then reopen it - to make sure Firefox takes care of any garbage-collection. Then do your Bookmarks' Library [Export Bookmarks To HTML] followed by a [Backup], & you are good to go.

Actually, I don't know what introduced the error. Don't know if it was Firefox's [Restore] function, or it could have been me (by accident) w/ some "unnoticed & unexpected" move of the mouse/trackball, which accidentally duplicated all of the folders w/o me noticing, & that is why all of the "Bookmarks" were "duplicated".

Hi, my bookmarks toolbar doesn’t show when I launch Firefox. They always use to. When I click on View>Toolbar>Bookmarks Toolbar>Always Show - the Bar shows. When I click on any bookmark the bar disappears. If (in new window) I click on View>Toolbar>Bookmarks Toolbar>Always Show - the bar appears, when I then open new tab it does not show on new tab and when I click back to previous tab bookmarks are gone.

I have restarted W10 PC, no change.

This issue has arisen on Firefox for Linux Mint (my current version is 123.0 (64bit)). I like Firefox, and I like its bookmarks toolbar, and have used it for many years, but there seems to be a new bug introduced today:- The bookmarks toolbar is present and correct when I start Firefox, but now it disappears as soon as I select any bookmark, or if I enter any web address or if I open a new tab. The [View >Toolbars > Bookmarks Toolbar > Alway Show] option is already selected, but the toolbar is no longer visible. If I click on it again, the bookmarks toolbar reappears (or I can restart Firefox, and this will also restore the toolbar). But the toolbar now disappears as soon as I use the browser in any way, and so is currently not really of practical use, as it needs constant restoring. Hope you can help resolve this.
