Recent issue, April 2024. Had version 124 Firefox on Win10 computer and went to Help - > About to have Firefox check for updates. This has worked just fine up until now. The message "Failed to check for updates." is shown in the About screen. I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox with the same results. Have also un-installed Firefox, un-installed Mozilla Maintenance, then removed Firefox data from App Data folder in user directory, then re-installed with the same results. Also, now when I access a local media server, I keep getting the message "Firefox is installing components needed" and that never goes away. Any ideas?

Your instructions under "help" say to click on "Firefox" and click on "preferences". When I click on Firefox the menu does NOT have "Preferences" in it. What's up with that?? And how do I clear the cache and cookies?

Firefox is my default browser, but it does not allow me to log in to specific websites. For example, ihg.com, when I click the sign in button nothing happens, I just have a little note at the bottom left "javascript:void(0);" Another example, dutchcrafters.com , when I click Log in with Gmail, nothing happens.

I have tried removing all the content blocking extensions (privacy badgers, ublock origin, etc.), did not fix it. I have tried a firefox refresh, did not fix it. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox with several device restarts, did not fix it.

I know this must be a firefox specific problem because microsoft edge work perfectly for both of these examples. Any other suggestions to fix this firefox issue?

I tried opening an .md file with Firefox. It seems that this was a bad idea. Now, my browser keeps opening new tabs indefinitely. I tried rebooting my computer (I am using Ubuntu), I tried removing the handlers.json files from the .modzilla folder in my home directory, but it has no effect: whenever I try to open Firefox this infinite loop goes on right were I left it closing the browser. Please help so I can use it again! Best.

Since a day or two the font size on my Menu Bar is way too small. I have been searching around and the solutions are not working or not what I want. I do not want to zoom in, I want my page size to remain the same, I only need the font size on the menu bar back to what it was. I tried the userChrome.css method and it did not work

When I open Firefox on my new computer all the bookmarks are showing at the top. I only want my default bookmark toolbar to show. The only solution I could find was to drag it into the toolbar area.

I am running Firefox 121.0.1, which is currently up to date, on a slightly older MacBook, which has the latest MacOS it can get: macOS 11.6.8. As the title states, YouTube is almost unwatchable on my machine. The video will pause frequently while audio continues, motion is not very smooth, which is especially noticeable watching sports, etc. I cleared cookies and cache, I have run in Troubleshoot mode as well as tried flipping some switches in about:config that I've seen in YouTube videos and forum posts about similar issues, but nothing has solved this issue.

YouTube in Google Chrome works fine, and I've been watching HD YouTube on this laptop with it for years without any issues, so I doubt it has anything to do with machine specs like RAM, CPU, etc.

I was hoping to make Firefox my new browser and start supporting browsers that aren't chromium based since Google Chrome is going too far with respect to privacy and the freedom to use the add-ons I like (e.g. adblockers like ublock origin), but so far I have not been enjoying Firefox for YouTube. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Firefox stopped working with my VPN on when I updated my OS to Sonoma, yesterday. I use PIA for my VPN.

I have done the following, so far, restarting my system several times between trying these things:

Checked that internet connection and modem are fine. All pages load in Safari, with VPN running, but I prefer Firefox.

Checked the Network settings for my Mac. Ensured that No Proxy was selected.

Cleared my Firefox cookies, cache and history.

Tried running in troubleshooting mode, turning off all extensions.

Tried turning off Advanced Tracking Protection, which I usually run on Custom.

Refreshed Firefox.

Finally, I turned off my VPN and, viola, all sites work. Turned it back on, and can’t navigate, again. For instance, I tried to open YouTube, and got a blank screen. Turned off VPN, and got to main YouTube page. Turned the VPN on and tried to log in…nope. Turned it off and logged in. Turned it back on and tried to open a video….nope. Turned it off and opened the video…etc., etc..

I very much wish to continue using both Firefox and my VPN. Can you suggest a course of action? Thank you for any advice you can give!!

I'm trying to give permission to a website to use my microphone, but if I copy in the web address, the "Allow" button doesn't appear & so when I hit "save changes" nothing happens.

Online forms don't appear in Firefox (Windows 10 PC), but do appear correctly using Edge or Chrome. This has been happening for quite some time. I have o switch to Edge or Chrome to see the fields to fill in on online forms.

I've noticed lately that my Firefox keeps freezing and hanging up at random periods for no apparent reason. I have very few plugins and it even happens with them all disabled and removed. I've tried resetting Firefox to default everything yet it makes no difference.

Also I can not clear history. I've tried multiple different clear history plugins but none of them work at all. And when I try the traditional way of clearing Firefox history the window pops up and then the entire browser just freezes while 'clearing' and never gives me back control, I have to force quit and restart to regain control. And then when I relaunch the history is still not cleared!

So aside from the constant lagging and lockups it seems that any attempt to delete history whether using the inbuilt function or adding plugins messes up the whole browser.

Googling this issue it seems others are having the exact same problem with Firefox and yet any suggested solutions (reset browser) don't seem to be working for may of them.. Or me.

I loaded the postcode lottery website but it's completely blurred. I last checked the same website last month, and it worked fine. I have cleared the cookies from Firefox, but the result is the same. It appears clear for a moment, then blurs. No pop-ups asking to accept cookies. It works fine using Chrome. Any idea why Firefox won't display it properly? It loads the National Lottery website, so it's not about gambling sites I guess.

Every time I am trying to search, google is always pinned on my search bar, and I want to get rid of it. How can I remove google? (On the image I marked the issue with a red circle)

What happened to "recent bookmarks"??? I is no longer available....why???? I need it back, as I used it all the time and my bookmarks were very easy to locate. Now I have no idea where a bookmark is, that was even bookmarked an hour ago.

Within the Add-on Manager by clicking Manage Extension Shortcuts - you can make shortcuts for add-ons to perform specific functions via the buttons on your keyboard, but I want to actually be able to use the buttons on my actual mouse rather than the keyboard.

Does anybody know if this is possible? Currently when I try to use my mouse to input a 'shortcut' in the 'Type a shortcut' box nothing works.

Are there any about:config settings or add-ons that can enable me to use my Mouse to make shortcuts for my add-ons?
