This requires some explanation.

I have 6GB of RAM, and am running Windows 7 64b.

I just updated to v115 from v56esr. I was using an extension that broke when the quantum update came out, and I wasn't willing to let go of it so I stopped updates. When the occasional website stopped working on the old version I would use Chrome for that website, but Firefox has always been my preference. Chrome was such a memory hog that I couldn't have more than a dozen tabs open at once before it crashed, and for me that is unacceptable. At this point however, enough websites have ceased to function in Firefox that it was worth it to me to update. After updating I found that Firefox uses just as much memory as Chrome. Where I previously could have 30 or 40 tabs loaded at once before running out of memory, now I only get about a dozen.

Question: In what version(s) did the memory consumption drastically change? What version can I revert to in order to bring memory consumption back to a manageable level? What other settings can I tweak to reduce memory usage? (For example, can I automatically reject loading of subframes?)

Please Note: - I use adBlock+ and I have made a habit of turning off tracking and rejecting cookies and notifications everywhere I go online to prevent excess resource usage, among other things. - I use very few extensions so there isn't really any memory to save there. - I understand that my computer is old and should be upgraded. Telling me to get a new computer or add more RAM is unhelpful and will not be appreciated. - I also understand that running out of date software is a security risk and is not recommended. I don't care, so don't bring that up. - And I also understand that I am a tab hoarder. Because of the way I work I typically have 50-100 tabs open, but I periodically close it so as to unload everything and usually don't have more than about 30 active tabs at once. - I know that some websites (particularly those with lots of subframes) use much more than other sites so my memory usage is entirely dependent on which sites I have open, and I know that I can open the task manager to close/unload unnecessary tabs and subframes. Having to do that frequently is a pain, and it doesn't work if I need all the tabs that are active.

Hi, I posted this question about 3 upgrades ago. I run Win7_64 (Yes I know it's outdated!) with dual monitors. After closing FF I was always left with a partial FF screen window open on the left monitor. It could only be cleared with a screen refresh, or dragging another app. screen over the top. I checked the obvious like GFX drivers (which had never changed), FF .exe processes seem to have terminated and I confirmed no other app did this (even Chrome). I suspected it was a FF shutdown problem? I asked the question here but didn't get a solution until now.

I've now installed the latest update 115.11.Oesr (64 bit) and have not seen the same problem for a week. If it stays that way, thanks to the FF team for fixing this annoying problem.

Yesterday firefox private window comes up on my browser...I do NOT want that, how to get rid of it?? My desktop is set up with menus for quick reference; I cannot get past this private window

I'm trying to load a jsonlz4 backup of 88.4 mb with 1 146 851 items. When creating a new places.sqlite, the majority of the bookmarks inside Other Bookmarks don't have a location url. Like this:

I tried using https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/bookbackreader.html to convert it into html and json. Importing the html into firefox puts everything into the Bookmarks Menu and everything is missing their location url. Opening the html in writer I see that every bookmark does have its location url but as hyperlinks on the names. Restoring the json, 1 time after not clicking the Check/Repair JSON button and another time after clicking it, gives me all the bookmarks in their correct place but the majority are still missing their location urls.

I also tried creating another places.sqlite with my jsonlz4 backup and exporting as html and json through the bookmarks Library. Importing them, separately, into new firefox profiles just gives me the bookmarks that weren't missing links.

Also tried creating a places.sqlite in windows but it stopped before the Other Bookmarks folder, I guess.

I don't know if its relevant but between restarts and shutdows I always have 18 kmozillahelper processes before even starting firefox. I don't know since when they haven been there or if they have increased.

Any ideas on how to restore correcly my bookmarks?

Concerning "Dismissed Suggestions"> Restore Suggestions. The "Restore" button (circled in image) is greyed out & will not do anything when clicked. This behaves same in normal as well as private browsing windows. Thank you

Hello, I have a very weak internet connection and I've been experimenting with ways to lessen the burden of the slow connection by increasing the time that the cache from websites can stay on my computer (I've already increased browser.cache.disk.capacity and set browser.cache.check_doc_frequency to 2, but the files still end up expiring eventually forcing them to be re-downloaded even though I know these cache files never change).

So far I've had some success with this extension (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/cache-longer/) it definitely works but very inconsistently so I've tried to directly edit the cache files found in Profiles\someprofile.default-release\cache2\entries but every time I edit the max-age on the cache-control line or any other line firefox just erases the cache file completely then re-downloads it.

TL;DR - Is there someway of getting firefox to ignore the cache file expiry dates and cache-control age or at least editing these files to extend their life?

I appreciate any help in this!

After the last upgrade Firefox has a strange ~6 pixel wide dark border. How can I eliminate that border?

I use version 115.11.0esr (32-bit). I need help with the color of open tabs. How do open tabs can be all in one color and that is black or dark gray? I don't want all open tabs to be bright because it stitches me in the eye. Active tab can be any color but for all other open tabs I want them to be in the same dark color - black or dark gray. Is this possible and how can this be achieved? Thanks very much.

Firefox uses about half a gig on my disk, that's: '~/.mozilla' and '~/.cache/mozilla' can that be reduced? Either some setting that limits disk use or even a manual deletion of ancient stuff?

Shoot!! I just filled this out, and somehow, it reverted me back to This screen again!! I am not a programmer or IT Guy. What I am is a person that is Very alert to sudden changes in my experiences. I retired 14 years ago, as a Manager in a Manufacturing industry. Very familiar using desktop. For some reason, about a couple weeks ago, some of my sites have begun using google adds, over and over. When I click on the "X", wants to know why, etc. I use Malware Bytes, scans every day. Does NOT discover any malware, but I KNOW something has changed to allow the bombardment! Is it possible it's just a single site that I had to change and log in to? Even if so, WHY doesn't Malware stop them? Should I try a system restore to weeks ago? My Firefox browser recently updated to 115.11.0esr (64-bit), and now embedded videos won't play, I can initially see a picture, but instead of starting to play, the screen turns dark green and I can only hear the sound. This happened once before recently, but then it seemed to fix itself after a week or two. How can this be fixed?

It takes forever for my home page (MSN) to load when I first start Firefox. Can that process be speeded up? I suspect there's a way to get my home page to load faster. Can someone help? Thank you, Firefox.

I've disabled all of my addons, cleared cache, and still youtube is broken for me. It works fine with Chrome still. Any ideas on how to fix? See attched screenshot.

When reloading a page, or navigating to a new page, the default Stop icon momentarily appears over my own Reload icon, and the default Reload icon also appears over my Stop icon.

Any idea if this is a minor bug?

Below is my code to split the Reload button into Reload & Stop buttons, then to add text to the navigation buttons, and finally to add icons to the navigation buttons.

This anomaly happens whether or not I split the Reload & Stop buttons. With just a single Reload button, I'm also seeing the default Reload icon appear over my own.

I'm on Linux, Zorin OS, which is Ubuntu based if I'm not mistaken, very new to Linux.

Anyway, I've made a userChrome.css and done some changes I like to Firefox. It has been working fine until I tried to change the tab bar's overflow shadows when there are more tabs than there is space in the bar.

The rest of the css edits I've made in userChrome.css works fine but this overflow shadow reference Firefox just doesn't grab. I can live edit with the Toolbox and then it works fine, but when opening Firefox as default this css definition is as if gone.

In numerous cases i have found not to be beneficial when website's search function is activated on Ctrl+F keyboard shortcut and where is better to use regular Firefox on-page search instead. I think that the good site has search button/area visible so i can use it when needed.

So please how to disable Firefox's search (Ctrl + F keyboard shortcut) to activate website's internal search? I want to always use regular Firefox on-page search that i now trigger by left Alt (to show the FF menu), click Edit menu, click Find in page.... (since Ctrl+F is occupied by website's internal search).
