I don't want to have the little white history box show every time I switch a tab or click on one. It make me click off it somewhere, I find this very unproductive.

hello brcimo, it appears as if you have the extension named "tab history menu" installed, which offers the functionality as you've described it. if you don't like it please uninstall it from firefox > addons > extensions.
