I cannot apparently use the new versions of Firefox - what happens when 3.6 stops functioning?

I have a Mac Mini - it has a 1.33 GHz Power/PC G4 processor. I have plenty of RAM and available space on my hard disc. I downloaded the latest version - because the system requirements appeared to say a G4 processor was acceptable. But I got the message that it couldn't run on my computer. I have recently had quite a few fairly minor, but annoying, problems with Firefox and usually I have to close Firefox and re-launch it - then the problem resolves itself. But today I have received a load of emails from people on my contact list who say they have received an odd email from me that they can't - or don't want to - open. I did not send any emails like this, nor would I be likely to. So my contact list has been compromised somehow. I thought by upgrading my Firefox I might prevent this happening again... Any help out there?

New versions of Firefox do not support for Power/PC (PPC) processors. Firefox 3.6 supports PPC and Intel Macs. Firefox 4 and up requires an Intel Mac and is built for both 32-bit and 64-bit CPUs.

There is a separate project called TenFourFox that brings an unoffical version of Firefox 7 to older Macs. I don't use it or a Mac myself, so I can't vouch for it, but you might want to give it a try.
