Google needs to update the Google Toolbar program for Firefox 5.0.

The Google Toolbar 7.1.20110512W version does work pretty good in Firefox 5.0 by using the Compatibility Reporter extension. But not every feature works 100%.

Google Labs has been working on a GTB 8 version, but it looks like it isn't made for Firefox - just for Internet Explorer.

So, maybe Google isn't going to be supporting Firefox any longer. That might be a move to force Google Toolbar users over to Google Chrome, which I believe has all those features built-in.

Extensions for Firefox, such as the Google Toolbar, include a list of compatible Firefox versions. Currently, the Google Toolbar only goes up to Firefox 4. However, people have tested and it actually works on Firefox 5, so there are two workarounds:

(1) Edit a file to revise the range of compatible versions

(2) Install an add-on that lets you ignore the range of compatible versions

This thread has info on both approaches: google toolbar does not work with firefox 5.0. why not! | Firefox Support Forum | Firefox Help.

Any luck?

Thank you. Firefox is still working on additions for version 5, but I hope that does not take more time to piece

I can't even understand this reply; unless I can do it with one single click, it's not good for me! I have always been Firefox user but right now I regret updating to 5.0!

I really hope you can find a fix for this nagging problem real soon. Ever since I opted to use firefox as my browser, I've been quite satisfied with my experience using it. But preventing a useful tool such as google toolbar from being installed on my browser is really becoming so frustrating.

Really annoying and still the problem persists do not know when they would finish the task because I have Google tools

I stumbled upon a page that I don't recall, but was able to install a google "persona" which is something of a google toolbar light. According to the info, this takes less space than regular tool bar or the schemes noted below.

There was also something labeled schemes which was also compatible.

Thank you for offering this solution. Unfortunately, there's a feature of Google Toolbar that is no longer there. "Enable the Google new tab page" isn't available on release 7. I'm old and set in my ways. Any ideas on fixing this feature?

Edit: Okay, now that I looked up what that feature was, it's more like a "speed dial" or "fast dial" page. Different add-ons completely... feel free to ignore this post.

What do that feature do -- show a particular Google page when you create a new blank tab? You can use another Firefox add-on for that:

NewTabURL :: Add-ons for Firefox

After installation, use its options dialog to set the desired new tab page.

@Gannburg

Best thing to do is to contact Google Toolbar support or peruse the Google Toolbar support group to find out what is going on with that application. IMO, this is a very unusual situation, the Google Toolbar is usually updated for a new version of Firefox very close to the time Mozilla releases a new version of Firefox. With this problem being 3 weeks old, since Firefox 5.0 was released, I am wondering if they're not going to be updating the GTB for Firefox ever.

IMHO, it is time to look for alternative add-ons for the features you want. Or revert to Firefox 3.6.19 for the time being, while "auditioning" new browsers that have all the features you want, built-in so that you aren't dependent upon add-ons that might become un-available as time passes.

I'm old and somewhat set in my ways, too, I am driving a car I bought almost 27 years ago; but when it comes to software I can "go with the flow".
