Why is Firefox so slow and freezes up now?

Been using Firefox for over a decade. But lately is has become so slow now. Often freezes up if more than two tabs are open or a website is in any way very complex. What settings and issues should I check? What has changed? I can run the same sites on Brave and Edge browsers with no issues or not nearly as slow and bogged down.

Hi there, could you add which websites are freezing for you?

Same here. I've been using Firefox for a few years now.

But it seems to have really slowed down, just in the past month. So much so, that I'm now switching to Chrome (which uses about 80% of the memory, but just seems to load MUCH quicker).

I assumed Mozilla put thru an "update" which didn't go particularly well.

In fairness, I'm still running on Win7 (please spare me the lectures about moving to Win11).

There are no particular website...just an across the board slow loading problem.

Yesterday, i had a great side-by-side test. For some reason I opened a link which caused Firefox to open...it's still my default.

From a cold start, in less than the time it took FIREFOX to load that one web page, I opened Chrome, and had four different web pages loaded.

Would love to know what the problem is, because I still prefer FIREFOX.

Hey there, which version of Firefox are you using?

Hello Konstantina,

Belated chronia polla! LOL

I'm using 115.36.0esr 64 bit.

thanks in advance for any advice!

best regards Κωνσταντίνος

Γεια σου Κωνσταντίνε και ευχαριστώ πολυ! (and belated chronia polla to you too) I am thinking maybe you need to refresh your Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings Please note that refresh won't save all of your data, so so you may want to keep the profile saved with old data: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-passwords-and-data-from-an-old-firefox-profile

Got it...I'll try it.

Σας ευχαριστώ παρα πολύ!!!

PS Worked GREAT!!! Firefox is back to normal!!!

Only thing i would add is to be SURE to restart the computer after the REFRESH!!!
