Why doesn't Firefox recognize my correct location? It gives me the weather for Chicago, IL on my homepage. I don't live in IL. MS Windows and Edge have my correct location, so why doesn't Firefox?

I have tried to change weather location on my Firefox homepage by putting in the correct town and state, then hitting the search icon but nothing happens, although once I was redirected to the AcuWeather site.

This is not that big a deal as I can get my weather on my Samsung phone, but it is puzzling.

Thanks for your time--Maureen

Hi Maureen, I think the weather lookup is based on your IP address, which is a numeric address sites use to send you back responses to requests.

You can look up the geographic information associated with your IP address on a variety of sites. For example, the following site, which will suggest you use a VPN to change your location info, but you can ignore that since we're just using it for research:

https://nordvpn.com/what-is-my-ip/
