Bookmark file keeps copying my bookmarks into the file

Firefox bookmark file keeps adding all my bookmarks to the bookmark file. I have an unbelievable amount of bookmarks.

It keeps copying all of the ones in the Menu Bar many times to the end of the list in the Manage Bookmarks page.

I need to keep one copy of my bookmarks in the Menu bar but want to make sure I don't delete those.

Why are the same bookmarks multiplying in my bookmark file?

This can happen when you import bookmarks from a backup/old file multiple times - the routine appends the "new" info to the existing - can be annoying for bookmark toolbars. For me, beats losing them. I'm sure this is an ongoing project.
