I have just installed a new Firefox and now time and again when I try to sign in on a web site I have used for a long time, I just get a WARNING notice. STOP IT! These are really excessive and irrelevant WARNINGS.

Hi Ed, a secure connection error indicates that the certificate presented by the server doesn't check out. If it were the real server, it would check out. Have you done a normal shut down and restart of Windows since this problem started? Sometimes security software checks for new browsers it needs to set up at Windows startup. Otherwise, please do try View Certificate to see whether the "Issued by" section points to ESET to maybe to an unknown third party.

Hi

What does the warning notice say?

more options

Hi Seburo

Usually it says: Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead - Firefox detected a potential security threat and did not continue to www.passblue.com. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details.

And it allows me to Accept Risk and Continue

Sometimes is it stronger, Did Not Connect: Potential Security Issue

And this does not allow me to accept the risk and continue.

All of these notices have been on sites I have been visiting for a long time, like Associated Press.

There is security software like Avast, Kaspersky, BitDefender and ESET that intercept secure connection certificates and send their own.

Hi Ed, next time, before making an exception, take a look at the certificate info -- after you click the Advanced button, there should be a View Certificate link. This can be helpful in discovering a man in the middle because they will often be intercepting your browsing on a lot of different sites. Maybe it is completely innocent -- your security software -- but too often it is not innocent...

I will query ESET on this but very skeptical that they have anything to do with it. Seems to me I had just installed a new Firefox upgrade. The sties that are being warned on are ridiculous - Associated Press, NY TImes, Geo Bush Center. They're not the slightest bit suspicious
