Firefox 91 tabs.
So, I just got the new firefox update, v91 I think? and the tabs are absolutely driving me insane. I can't quite find how to fix it.
Last time, I had the proton tabs disabled and that was pretty much all I needed to fix the issue. But right now I've got two problems: 1. I really dislike the floating look to them, is there any way to again block the proton update/feel etc? 2. This is the one that's truly got me bananas: the volume icon that one usually got in the tab by default when sound was being reproduced... now only shows when the cursor hovers above it, otherwise it disappears. Is there any way to bring this function back?
Please, please help.
I adore Firefox, have been using it pretty much since 2004 or thereabouts, and would not change it... but sometimes these changes drive me to tears. I'd love it if there was a manual or something that would teach one how to change these things without having to bother anyone else :(

The configuration preference you mention was left in for testing and was due to be removed with this update.
There is no way that I am aware of to make the changes you are looking for, but this may be something that we consider in a future update.
In Firefox 91+ you can no longer disable Proton via "browser.proton.enabled = false". Best is to leave browser.proton.enabled at its default value true as this pref still has effect.
In Firefox 91+ you will have to use code in userChrome.css to override changes coming with the Proton design.
Insane, nightmare and everything along those lines.... These tabs are crazy, why are they pushing this so hard? Ok so you want to push something we DON'T like, fine. But then leave us an option how to easily fix that, without having to go into code and waste more and more time.... until we switch to Chrome - unless that is the main goal of Mozilla devs?
The Proton tabs are awful: visually indistinct and difficult to work with, missing crucial functionality (such as being able to mouse over and see the close X).
I am furious at Eudora devs for forcing this unwanted change on my favorite browser, not giving the many people who hate it an easy way to turn it off, and wasting our time finding workarounds or dealing with the crummy new interface.
