A link to my previous thread: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1339912

Recap: I was having what I believe were some kind of syncing issues, where none of my passwords would autofill, and I couldn't save new login information, and was getting logged out of websites that I would normally be perma-logged in to. At the same time, I have also been having connectivity issues where FF loses connection to my internet for around 5 minutes. Sometimes it would fix itself and other times I'd have to restart FF. Meanwhile, Chrome would run fine in the background so I know it's not my actual wifi but it's specific to FF.

I have tried the FF "refresh" and when that didn't fix it, I tried a full uninstall/reinstall which fixed my syncing/password autofill issues but not my connectivity issues.

Any other ideas? I'm super bummed about this because I've used FF for many years and been so happy with it and have convinced so many friends to jump ship from Chrome over to FF. But I don't have time to keep troubleshooting this and it's looking more and more like I'll have to switch over to Chrome if I want to have a normal workday without frustrations and interruptions.

So does anyone or any Mozilla staff have any ideas about this?

The issue has been ongoing. The issue of FF not connecting also happens when I return to my computer after it being asleep. I've used FF for almost 10 years without a single issue and now I am plagued by connectivity issues.

Hi sjb, if you recently got an antivirus or have enabled an antivirus recently, you can try to add Firefox as an exception to the anti-virus. You can also try uninstall and clean install the latest version of Firefox, if either of these still doesn't resolve your problem, you can uninstall and downgrade to the version of Firefox that was functioning properly without any issues. Hope this can help. If you have any other questions please let me know.

Thanks.

You can check the connection settings.

  • Settings -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

I have the same problem and while FF is saying 'no internet connection', I can use Opera browser to connect perfectly. It's something about FF since the last update.

It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox application. Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I'm not savvy enough with the Proxy stuff to know what it means but I made that change, and it did not help it.

I don't want to downgrade to an older version after finding this article from Mozilla saying they advise against downgrading for security reasons: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-older-version-firefox?cache=no&redirectslug=install-older-version-of-firefox&redirectlocale=en-US

As for firewalls, my Mac settings say Firewall is off.

As for the antivirus comment up top, I'm on Mac and I've had Malwarebytes installed with no issue for years, so it's not new software for me. I don't think it's that, and I have already tried a clean uninstall/reinstall of Firefox which did not fix my connection issue.

So I'm pretty much at a loss and feel like I've done enough troubleshooting and I'm just swapping over to Chrome. I'm done and I'm sad that Firefox doesn't "just work" for me anymore like it should - and after nearly 10 years! Thanks all for your input regardless and sorry to everyone else experiencing this disruptive issue.
