I never delete history! But I noticed this since long time ago, e.g. I want to go on a website - I was recently on (if I closed it already) but it is not in immediate search history - it happened to me multiple times!

Also now: I was searching for one keyword a lot, like 50 times and in history are barely like 7 hits. No idea why it is not there!!!

Please help.

When you go to a website page, that is recorded in the history. Should you later return to that page, the older enter is removed while the new entry is created.

Profile data can be removed or not recorded in several ways;

  • 1) Running Firefox in Private Mode (nothing is recorded)
  • 2) Privacy settings; (In the address bar, type about:preferences#privacy<enter>)
  • 3) Many disk cleaners and anti-virus type programs can remove data from browsers
    Open their settings and have them leave the browsers alone.
  • 4) Mal-ware.

I think you are referring to "browsing history" -- full URLs -- and not "search history" -- just the query terms.

When you view history, Firefox de-duplicates it and shows only the latest visit to each URL. There's also a column you can add (if you are viewing history in the Library window) with the Visit Count. Right-click any existing column heading to display the column chooser.

If you need to see every single visit to a URL with its own time stamp, you would either need to use an extension or an external program.

How many history items do you have since there is a maximum number of visits (not time limited)?

You can check for issues with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite databases in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.

Lets say I visit specific URL on quora of some question, but it is later not visible in history. I tried to visit it and click there on something, or go back using side mouse button. But it is still visible in history. Yet later for some reason I find many URLs are missing.
