When I start typing in the Address Bar I get a few suggestions: first there are my bookmarks (one of which fills the address), then there are results from my search engine. I like that. But let's say, for example, none of my bookmarks start with the letter 'z'. What I want to see when I type 'z' is the results from my search engine, like random popular words or sentences. Instead I receive some mainstream site that I never use, 'zooniverse dot org', followed by '-- Visit'. Is it possible to turn that off?

The location bar drop-down list can show history items, bookmarked pages, pages opened in tabs, top sites, and search suggestions. You can set what suggestions show when you enter an URL in the location/address bar bar.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Address Bar: When using the location bar, suggest:
    History
    Bookmarks
    Open tabs
    Top sites
  • Options/Preferences -> Search -> Search Suggestions

For top sites you can check this on the about:newtab or about:home page (Firefox Home).
