My login request shows up any time, rarely at the start of the browsing session and does not seem to have any relevance in regards to the access of my tabbed websites. Completely useless, as far as I am concerned. Can anyone help?

Is this about the pop-up window to enter the Primary Password ?
The credentials to connect to the Firefox Sync account are stored in the Password Manager.
Are you possibly using Sync as that could be a reason to ask for the Primary Password at startup ?
You can open Lockwise (about:logins; possibly as a pinned tab or bookmark) to make Firefox ask for the PP if you do not want to wait.
