Firefox 82.0 (Restart Doesn't Update Client) 82.0.3 Update
To you awesome people,
I've experienced this issue in several Windows 10 installations now, different builds, running 19042 currently, Home 64-bit.
My issue:
I can install Firefox without issues, configure it to my taste, no issues on that end.
I choose C:\Mozilla as my install directory.
However, whenever there's an update and I choose to download and install it, it downloads and installs fine, but when I need to restart the browser to apply the update, nothing has been updated.
As in this very instance, it was downloading and installing 82.0.3, but once restarted, Firefox is still stuck in 82.0.
I've not tampered with about:config just configured Firefox in the regular options.
What could be the cause?
Anyone else having these issues?

I would presume that would result in no issues as well.
However, as in my case, lots of programs that I decide to install, installs perfectly into custom locations. Doesn't seem to be the case with Firefox, maybe someone should look into it?
As for my solution, I simply downloaded the whole installer as per your recommendation and the installer gave me an option to upgrade the current installation as it detected an old installation in the directory of choice.
I think I will keep using the above workaround until the Firefox team is able to resolve the issue.
If Firefox is not letting itself to be updated through a directory chosen by the user, maybe the Firefox installer shouldn't let you choose a custom installation path?

Firefox normally would install itself to Windows: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox"
but the choice is yours using the manual install.

Just to be clear, you're saying Firefox is having difficulties updating due to my choice of installation directory?
Also, would downloading the complete installer, and installing the latest version of Firefox into the same directory as my current install, overwrite and update the installation?
There is no need to first uninstall, i.e. nothing is added or dublicated, just updated?

Others read these posts so the program folder bit was for them. Some systems will write-protect folders automatically. This could be your problem.
Open your file browser to the root directory c:\ Make sure the Mozilla - Firefox folder and its files are NOT read-only.
Right, thanks for the explanation.
So I checked the Properties of the folder, you were right - it was 'Read-Only'.
However, once unchecking it and applying my changes, opening Properties back up, it still says 'Read-Only'.
I'm logged on with the 'hidden' Administrator account on this particular computer.
No UAC, full administrator rights, the true administrator, not some fake sub-level account.
Any clues?
I suggest letting the installer place the browser where it wants. Any problem?
