When I try to launch the browser, an error box pops up saying Firefox has stopped working, please close the program. I cannot fix this error. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the browser and this will not fix it. Essentially I can no longer use the browser on my computer. Any solutions?

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Thanks. Just to provide more clarity on the issue: When I try to launch Firefox, a dialog box pops up that says the following:

Firefox has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program.

For some reason if I re-download the browser (e.g., from Chrome) it will open and I can use it just fine. Once I close the browser and then try to launch again, the above dialog box appears again. So for some odd reason I can use firefox as long as I re-download every time (which is obviously not efficient).

I restarted by going to help, restart with add ons disabled (and then a box came up telling me it was safe mode) and it would re-launch--but if I closed the browser normally and re-launch again the problem reappears.

In terms of the crash reports folder, I followed the suggestion but there was nothing in the folder.

Lastly, I don't know if this is a coincidence, but last night I downloaded the most recent version of firefox (the update from 10/28 I believe) so I don't know if something in that update has caused the problem.

Save the downloaded installer in case you need it again.

unfortunately nothing seems to work. The only way for me to use the browser is reinstall it every day.
