Hi ---- Wondering if anyone can help with this. Every time I open Firefox (my default browser), I get a spinning wheel, the browser doesn't load and my whole system crashes.

I have tried reinstalling Firefox - same problem occurs. Anyone got any tips? I'm running a mac on El Capitan and have been for a while with no browser problems.

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Um, thanks but it's on a mac. I don't have an internet security program (unless it's baked in to El Capitan). I have tried starting in Safe Mode, but holing down the Option key just finds Firefox in my Applications folder. And then the same problem occurs (spinning wheel - system freeze),

Hi Roland - How am I supposed to do that when Firefox crashes the instant it launches?

If you can't get Firefox to open, you will have to do this the hard way. https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Firefox-crashes/Mozilla-Crash-Reporter/ta-p/1715 Open the file browser / explorer on your computer. Note: You may have to enable Show Hidden Folders / Files. Enter this in the address bar;

Windows: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win 7/Vista: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win XP/2000: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted

Mac OS: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Crash Reports/submitted Linux: /home/<username>/.mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports/submitted

Copy the most Recent 5-7 File Names in the folder. Press the Reply button. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.

The crashing problem can also be caused by bugs on the current version that you are using. To fix this issue, try to check if there is an available update for your Firefox browser: ... Let Firefox check and scan for updates. Click Restart to Update Firefox.

A crash is what happens when Firefox closes or quits unexpectedly and the Mozilla Crash Reporter appears. If Firefox keeps crashing when you open it, this article will show you how to get it working again.

Other problems with crashing:

  • If Firefox starts without crashing but then crashes later on, see the Firefox crashes - Troubleshoot, prevent and get help fixing crashes article for solutions.
  • If Firefox won't start at all, but the Mozilla Crash Reporter appears, see the Firefox won't start - find solutions article for other possible fixes.

A crash report number starts with 'bp-' followed by a string of numbers.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Ok. Here are the most recent 7 file names, although they are all dated from 2012 (there's nothing newer in there).

re: Pallavi Kumari

As I said, I did a clean reinstall with the latest version and the problem remains. I get no crash report. I simply open my firefox browser, it starts to load and after about 5 seconds my mouse cursor turns into a spinning wheel and every program I am running (again, it's a mac) stops responding.

Note that Firefox 79 and newer releases require Mac OS X 10.12 or newer. User on Mac OS X 10.9, 10.10, and 10.11 have been moved to the Firefox 78 ERS version (current is 78.1.0esr).

Those would be of no use now.

If you want to reinstall Firefox, follow the instructions below. If you just want to remove it, disregard the install instructions.

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Note: Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Do Not remove any profile folders.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.
