After updating to firefox 72 (maybe it was after 72.0.1 - I did not have time to check so fast) videos on youtube started stuttering. When I start video everything seems fine but after a while it starts microstuttering - image is twitching, movement of camera is not fluent.

It looks like it is related to all videos on youtube. I watch mostly 1080p 60fps and these most often cause this issue. Example video: https://youtu.be/1La4QzGeaaQ It is easy to observe it at 1:27 with camera movement and terrain being fluent or not. If I pause video and resume play after few minutes it seems fine for minute but then it starts being choppy again. It does not seem to be related to video quality. I had 0 dropped frames in yt stats. I found workaround - if I set media.wmf.vp9.enabled to false and restart browser with this setting set to false everything is fine. But when I set it to true (like it always was for me) problem starts to occur. However no matter what I set youtube still shows "codecs: vp09". I do not have this problem on microsoft edge. I never had this problem on firefox 71 and I did not add any new extensions since few weeks. It must be new firefox fault, not my hardware or configuration.

I upvoted your post. I also did all the steps and tests you detailed above. I post this now just to confirm that I have the same bug. Seems to have started at 72.0.1. On my system, not all Youtube videos are affected , but all from the same users when it does. Netflix, Twitch, TWiTtv, PrimeVideo, Tubi and NOT afffected. Just Youtube.

I have a similar problem... I have been using Firefox since I can't remember and the computer I was using broke. So I started using my surface Go instead. The thing is, I can't remember which version of Firefox I had on the Surface Go, but on the computer I am pretty sure it was the last one because iirc it was set on automatic update. Since I am using the Surface, I can't watch a video using Firefox. Though if I use anything else to do it, like IE, or VLC (for a common mp4 or DVD) it will work perfectly. So if anyone have a clue on how to fix it, I would really appreciate it :-)

Same problem with 73.0 x64 and eGPU with external display. Do not use internal so can't tell exactly does the problem exist there or not. Edge and Chromium Edge act fine. Sometimes reloading page or restarting browser helps. Can see it at list from end of December or near that. Also, Synology video is affected too.

I am having the same problem on a Mac OS running 75. When I test another browser there is no probleme although it doesn't always occur.

an example of a youtube site is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HWLKWpJMtk playing it at 720p stutters in FF but plays perfectly in another browser.

Hello everyone,

I am still having this problem, even in Firefox version 76. Also, I have been facing this issue since version 68. None of the fixes stated here or on other pages helped me out. Please refer to this link for more details. Can anyone kindly help me in this regard? Or at least point me to the proper channel for filing a bug report directly to Mozilla. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks and regards,
