Hi danwiltrout, if the built-in updater isn't working, you may need to download and run the full Firefox installer.

However, I should start from this article:

Update Firefox to the latest release

Is that what leads to an error?

You could try removing the downloaded update files and see whether Firefox can do better on the next try. Here's where you do this:

Type or paste the following in the Windows 7 Start menu search box and then press Enter:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\updates

That should launch a file browser (Windows Explorer) in the following hidden folder:

C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Local\Mozilla\updates

I'm pretty sure this is where Firefox stages the next update and if you remove the contents here, Firefox should download the update fresh the next time you check for updates.

Does that work?
