Question: Will new versions of Mozilla Fenix for Android be released every 6-8 weeks on a schedule just like Firefox for Desktop? (May 24th, 2019)
I sure hope it will be. I always put release dates for Firefox Stable, LibreOffice Fresh, and Eclipse on my calendar, and be sure to install all three the same day the updates come out. This is to say that update days for Firefox, LibreOffice, and Eclipse are days that make me happy. I was thinking of getting a prepaid Android phone in addition to my iPhone 6s Plus just to enjoy Firefox for Android. I then heard Mozilla will be replacing it with Fenix because of very low market share. Open source software that announces update days well in advance are my favorite kind of software there is. I can't wait for Mozilla to announce the release dates of Firefox versions past Firefox 71.0 Stable this December 10th!

Last I heard, the Firefox for Android will only receive updates until Firefox 68.0, after which point it will just be bug fixes, because they are shifting the developers to Fenix. The release dates are as follows:
- Firefox 68.0: July 9th
- Firefox 68.1: September 3rd
- Firefox 68.2: October 22nd
There's no release date yet for the new Fenix browser because it's still under development, but the existing Firefox for Android will officially become unsupported in 2020.
From my understanding of the matter, Fenix should then follow the same update schedule as the desktop Firefox again. They are essentially doing to Firefox for Android what they did to regular Firefox when they created Firefox Quantum. They are essentially just rewriting the core of the program to make it faster and more touch-screen friendly.
I've tested Fenix and it does seem to be faster. It has some minor issues, as can be expected for a project that's still under development, but I fully expect those to be ironed out before it's released.
You can also try it out for yourself by downloading one of the APK files for your Android device. You can run it alongside your current version of Firefox for Android.
