Using the import from HTML option everything seems OK until the end. when I select the file and hit the open (or whatever) button, there is no error message, but nothing happens.

I am not sure what it should look like when doing your test. Here is a small sample of what I see:

Are you sure the file was saved in an HTML format and filename?

Test: Open Firefox. Then drop the file into its window. Does the file display properly?

That is a Google Chrome Bookmarks file in JSON format. To import these bookmarks you would have to use the migration wizard to import data from another browser. The file would have to be in the default location used by Google Chrome.

If you still have Google Chrome installed then try to export the bookmarks in Google Chrome to an HTML file and import this file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager (Library). You can open the Bookmarks Manager in Google Chrome (icon with the three bars > Bookmarks > Bookmarks Manager) and select "Organize > Export Bookmarks to HTML File".
